Is it possible once the factory barrel is removed, you can use a rear or loading port wrench for the switch barrels since they aren't torqued as much?

How do you cut a relief on the barrel?

This job is best done on a lathe. The use of a grooving tool to remove metal on the barrel relieving the torque pressure from the screwed together assembly.

When I first started taking rifles apart and doing barrel work years ago, I bought the Brownell’s barrel vise with bushings set, and the action wrench. Both are built hell for stout and have broke loose every barrel I’ve needed to remove to include a fair number of Howa 1500’s. The trick (for me) on the tougher ones is a 2 1/2 lb aluminum mallet and before that a 25” length of 1 1/4” brass bar. Either of those applied with some force on the end of the action wrench handle will pop any action loose with no damage. You need the impact on some of them to break them loose.

I dont know how many times I have to say this: but all the discussion
and the attempts with all kinds of equipment and methods that don't
always work, when there is a VERY simple solution to remove a 700 barrel.
Thats a UBV and a rear entry wrench with a very sturdy platform to attach the vise to.
Apparently there must be a multitude of non believers on this board.
I'm like Forrest Gump: "and thats all I got to say about that."
