Barrel/receiver indexing for sights

Hi guys, I've got a ML 700 muzzle loader with a junk barrel. I have a few other takeoff barrels from guns I have converted to smokeless. I want to replace the bad barrel with one of these.
The problem is they have open sights and need indexed to the receiver.
What is the best way to accomplish this? I assume I can set the shoulder back, but how do I determine how much?
Any thoughts?
Thanks Butch

Screw the replacement barrel on. Sights are crooked. Unscrew it until sights are straight. Measure the gap between barrel shoulder and receiver face. Say this gap measures .040”, you now need to cut barrel shoulder back .0225”, so you have one full revolution to go (.0625” per revolution, assuming 16tpi threads). I’d actually cut it back about .002” less, so it won’t overshoot your mark when you torque it down.
If you have a recoil lug sandwiched between the barrel and receiver, you have to take its thickness into consideration, for the above measurements.

That'll work! Thanks!

???. I think he is asking how to determine the amount to set back to align the iron sights. If I'm thinking right, one turn would be .0625", one 1/2 turn .03125, 1/4 turn would be .0156". Take it from there.

Yes, I wasn't sure if the 700 muzzle loader had a different thread pitch or not (never even held one, honestly) so yes, that's exactly what I meant.
