Indexing your barrel up

I have a question whether you should index up vs indexing left. Does this sound weird? I had a thought and this would relate to how much it is off only, but your barrel and twist push the bullet to the right with a right twist and I thought if you had to index because of a slight bend or what not why not index against the twist?

I have had this exact question asked before. I don't remember the answer, but I do know people on this board know the answer.

Maybe one of them will pop in and give the details.

I took a class from Gordy Gritters and was taught to index the barrel at the 12 O'Clock position. This has seemed to work well. Most barrels are not that far out and indexing is not necessary....until you get that rare barrel that is more extreme. :-)

I would think if you index to the left, it will shoot to the left, until you sight in, after that it's no different that anything else. However, in an extreme case, you might run out of windage on your scope.
