Barrel off to clean

I don’t feel like I need to remove the barrel or that it does anything to improve accuracy. The only advantage for me is that I remember to swab out the chamber and allows me to clean the breech area of the action. I don’t think it’s any better than leaving it on, it’s just the way I do it.

During a class at Blackwater years ago we were taught to take the barreled action out of the stock and use an air compressor to blow sand, grit and whatever else before cleaning with a solvent. At the range house they provided compressors just for that. Lots of sand at the range there. Jeff
The only thing with air compressors is to make sure, IMO, that you have a water and oil separator attached inline.

I run many barrels on a couple of TL3 actions. I too feel it is easier to clean them with them in the barrel vise vs on the gun. Nothing wrong with cleaning them on the gun if that's how a guy wants to do it.
Same here, in the barrel vise. I might shoot 3 - 4 different barrels in a weekend.

Never heard of anybody that takes a barrel off to clean it.
Barrels have been cleaned while still attached to the action for how long??
And no bore guides either.

The only time I clean a barrel off the action is when it's new and before it's installed for the first time.

have threaded caps to fit on chamber end and muzzle end of barrel

fill barrel with solvent and put on sealed caps

put on kitchen blender at high speed

or put in sous vide and spin with DeWalt drill

I’ll throw in my two cents. I’ve cleaned barrels off of the action while they were mounted in a barrel vice and found it easier to clean than having them on the action. With that said, I have never and probably will never remove a barrel for the sole purpose of cleaning.

If you're taking the barrel off to clean it...

Could you totally submerge the barrel in solvent in a tank ?

Or in a ultrasonic cleaner ?
I’ve put one in a Bio-Circle parts cleaner a few times. It works really well. I don’t recommend going out and buying one since they’re about 2K and up.
