Barrel Life???

I keep hearing that a .284 barrel will last much longer than a 6.5-284 barrel. It seems that most guys are shooting both rounds at the same velocities.

What is it that makes the barrel life so much shorter on the 6.5-284?

Does twist rate come into play with pressure and wear-and-tear on the barrel?

Cheers

Thanks, I am wanting to build an F-class rifle for long range shooting and I am doing my homework.

Cheers
