Just having some random thoughts in regards to previous posts. I am currently shooting the 6mmSX,,30deg. shoulder 243) for mid-range using 115 bullets and a 6.5x284 using 140 class bullets for 1K matches. I use the same powder in both cartridges,,N-165) and get very accurate results in both cartridges. During this evolution I had certain criteria that I felt were important.
1. I wanted a slow, high volume powder that had a low BTU rating that would fill the case to at least the neck/shoulder junction.
2. Said powder needed to not be temp. sensitive between 50-90 deg. ambient temps.
3. The powder had to give me sub.5 moa accuracy at the distances I mentioned above.
So far, N-165 is performing well, meeting all the criteria I set for the projects.
I’m running the 6mm at 3,117 fps. ES 4 fps and SD of 2.
The 6.5 is currently running 2,993 fps. ES of 24 SD 9. However I was only getting .102 vertical on that load. At that point I stopped doing load development and “went racingâ€.
As a side note, I’m looking for all the info I can get for a 6.5x55 AI. i.e. reamer dimensions and sources, dies, loads, everything. Any help on this project would be greatly appreciated.
I hope this data is of some help.
