Barrel length with B.O.S.S.

When determining a barrel length on a rifle equiped with B.O.S.S., do you include the B.O.S.S.?

I will be shooting over a chrono tomorrow, then adjusting a powder burn rate in Quickload. I'm thinking it will be a bit tough to adjust if I'm not using the correct barrel length to begin with!

In theory the "BOSS" has no effects in relation to performance.

BOSS's from what I have read are nothing more than a adjustable muzzle break. Some have called them a harmonic balancer on a barrel.

As the bullet is traveling through a "BOSS" there is no contact what so ever.

My A-Bolt II Hunter in .270 Win is BOSS equipped. The factory specs call it a 22" barrel, but.....from closed bolt face to muzzle crown measures 19 7/8". When I plug a 20" barrel length into QL, the predicitons match my chronoed results quite well.

I think the 22" length the factory lists is for the convenience of pre-ordering cases or cleaning rods, or such stuff. It may, though I don't know, have a legal aspect.

Q. On comparable models, what is the difference in the barrel length between BOSS and non-BOSS barrels?

A. There is no difference in the overall barrel length. The BOSS-equipped rifle has 2" less of actual barrel length. Our testing revealed, however, that there was no velocity loss.
