Wanting to build a 284Shehane 31" 1.250 dia.is this too much barrel for a Panda action? Am I over thinking it or gonna be fine?

When I built my first 6.5 x 284, I had a 1.250 tapering to 1" and 30" long. No problem.. I doubt the little extra will make any difference whatsoever.. It was on a Panda F-Class action..

Should be fine. I have a 7mmRSAUM with Panda/Stolle action and Brux
30 in no taper 1.250 barrel. Shoots really tight little groups. First match
for this rifle is this coming Sat 15/11. 300/500/600 yds 20 rounds each, 2 days. Florida State championship. I will post results. Eric Kennard put the rifle together for me. I am a bit apprehensive because the rifle likes to shoot HOT and DIRTY. They did announce a three minute blow-off at the beginning of each days shooting so this seems to calm my nerves. I always doubt my rifles until they go to war and perform.

No problem. I had a barrel like that in a Shehane on a Rem 700 SA and it was fine. The Panda is way stiffer than a Rem700. It should be a hammer.

OK we had the 2014 FSSA State Championship High Power this past weekend. 300/500/600 yds, 20 shots each, two days. I do not know how to shoot with my 7MM RSAUM. I have a lot to learn in shooting this rifle. I came in next to last. The rifle does shoot like a laser when
I am in a comfortable position. I did shoot 8 Xs in a row at the 600 yd
with a 197 score. Not good enough at this state match. Winners dropped a max of 4 points to 6 points in two days, aggregate.

Back to practice practice practice , only way to learn!

Actually Bluto65's barrel is 32" long. Two of the big barrel makers recommend 32" in the 7mm for 1000 yard shooting. I have built many rifles with the F-Class Panda action and 32" 1.25 straight barrels. I have seen a few individual barrels that needed to be cut back to 29" to shoot well.

I don't agree with the theories that one should use a steel action with a barrel this long. The Panda aluminum action does not flex.

the people who think you need a steel action are the same ones who think the threads in a Stolle/Kelbly action are aluminum !!!....Roger
