Action for Benchrest Shooting

Is the weight limit different for F/TR and F OPEN? The reason I ask is that I can't possably See how ANY BAT action ..short of a 10"x 2" Bat "L" ....would be cause for concern in F class. I have three of them that I use for IBS 1K, and we are limited to 17 LBS. And I use Nightforce scopes, to boot!! I see no problem with an "M" in a 22 lb gun!!

F-T/R has an 18 pound+ weight limit which includes a bipod while F-Open is 22# but doesn't include the front rest which doesn't move with the gun. The main difference between an F-Open gun and a Williamsport/IBS Light Gun is no muzzle brake in F-Class and the length and contour of the barrel. Most F-Open shooters use a straight 1.250 barrel with lengths in the range of 30 to 34 inches. A 32 inch 1.250 inch barrel weighs over 10 pounds by itself. Also, many F-Open shooters opt for adjustable butt plates and check pieces because we shoot from the prone position and some people need the adjustments to get a consistent shooting position. Combine all of that with a high power variable scope such as a 12X42X56 NF NXS and a person does have to give even a 22# weight limit some thought.

Here is a link to pictures of the guns used by current and past F-Open team members:

TonyR, Thanks for the reply, I hope to shoot an F-Class match in a few wks with my Rem 700 with a 26 inch Shilen 6.5x47L .288 neck , I don't have much time I still need to turn about 70 more pieces of brass , and I have only shot 20 rounds down it , but it shows promise at 1/2 moa, with out any load development and trying 38.2 varget and 41 RL17, I got a long way to go, I do need to think about my Savage action that has been trued by Lester Bruno, Thanks again.

No one has mentioned it, so I'd throw the Borden action out there.

the equipment list from the last European F Class championships published inthe recent online edition of Target Shooter Magazine makes interesting reading

They also published the Barrels and Stocks.
I emailed Vince Bottomley re Scopes used but unfortunately they didn't manage to collect that info.

you are right the defiance actions bolt will rust because they use chrome molly bolt instead of stainless thats why most people coat hem or blue them

Which stock will proper for my set up?

Stiller Viper SS Action + 1.250" straight 32" Barrel

What are the main different between these 2 stocks

Mcmillan Tooley MBR
Shehane MBR Tracker (Fiber Glass)

Because Mcmillan reply that
" We can inlet stocks for the Stiller Viper but the MBR and F-Class will end-up with fairly thin walls on the stocks. "

On the other ways, Bill Shehane reply with
" my choice would be the ST-1000. But if it is a heavy recoiling rifle and you are prone to holding and gripping the rifle the MBR Tracker would be the best choice.
Either stock is 3"s longer in the forend to handle the big 30" plus barrels. "

I found that Shehane stock in fiberglass was done by Mcmillan. So, are there any different in design between Mcmillan Tooley MBR vs Shehane MBR Tracker (Fiberglass Version)?

I have a McMillan Edge and Shehane Tracker.. the build quality on the Tracker is many classes above the McMillan stock..

the McMillan I got new and it was full of holes due to air bubbles in the mold so it was unusable without a $500 paintwork..
the Tracker was bedded and went staight to the range.. flawless
