Barrel issue?

With the great factory ammo today and you shooting 25 rounds a year, why are you reloading?
For some of our hunting rifles now that load development has been done much less than 25rnds/year are used.
Once you have a press, scales and case prep gear and a powder that can be used in a # of calibres you can make loads that are not available commercially that out-shoot factory loads and better suit your needs.
Everyone's needs are different and sometimes complex for each of their hunting requirements and conditions plus unlike a benchrest rifle lightweight hunting rifles can be very particular on what they like to be fed.
Of the many new rifles we get to see used here by guests Federal blue box universally shoots better than all other similarly priced easily available ammo yet good basic load development will outperform it.
YMMV

I'd say BR rifles are fussier that Hunting rifles with the exception of a Double Rifle which is about as fussy as a BR rifle. The reason is because we really do need to chase that last .1 MOA. That said, the loads that frustrate me with an LR BR rifle would be excellent in an LR hunting rifle.

Yes of course however what your hunting needs actually are makes the difference as to whether you're lugging a long range rifle into the mountains or a varminting rifle along ridges picking off unsuspecting critters at long range.
A chap that comes here developed a 6mm Rem based on a modified Tikka Varminter platform which shot very well and he's taken rabbits over 800 yds on quite a few occasions and while it has sufficient knock down to take deer at 700+ it's not the sort of rifle you'd wanna lug into the mountains !

Maybe I will get a lead sled for Christmas.
Personally, I'd skip the Lead Sled and get a front rest and rear bag. Or alternatively, a bipod and rear bag, if you want to simulate being in the field.

I've never noticed Lead Sled users being any more accurate than 2-piece rest users, and the LS with it's bulk is a dedicated use kind of thing - not exactly adaptable.
