Barrel Freezen ?

cryo treating barrels and molly coating bullits is an endless subject as how to break in and clean a barrel. Their will be a million different answers and leave you baffled at the end with maybe the beginning of a migrain that will run rampant throughout your head and leave you :o

As far as I am aware, no one has done a test that even approached the one that Kevin did while he was with Sierra.

I will back up Kevin T. with this as well.

We have never seen any difference in barrel life, cleaning or accuracy. Weather when we worked at Krieger or here as we have still played with it.

We have never made any claims as such either.

I have seen cryo treating wreck two barrels after they where finished, installed and had been shot and had shot good from the get go.

I've seen barrel blanks that we cryo'd treated and as one example on one order for a customer of a half a dozen blanks all the same caliber, contour and lot of steel we cryo'd half of them. One of the blanks bowed so bad during turning I wouldn't send it to the customer. Guess what it was one of the cryo'd blanks.

Yes it does help the machine-ability of the steel. The austenite in the steel is what retains the stress. Cryo'n it helps to convert it to the martensite which is more stress free. This is what helps the machinging. What we don't know is how much Aust. is in the steel when we get it. The steel is all ready been heat treated and double stress relived etc...the more stress free the less of an effect the cryo is going to have. Unless the consumer is going to pay the barrel maker $$$$ to have each bar tested etc....it's not feasible to do.

Again we see no difference in barrel life, accuracy or cleaning on cryo vs. non cryo'd barrels and we make no claims or support any claims as well.
