Barrel Diameter

Go to Youtube and look at Desert Eagle videos. He is using 26" 1.2 dia barrels on Vudoos and Bergara's
e is shooting .250 - .300 groups with out a tuner on them.
You need not spend a lot of time before you recognize how much uninformed BS this guy states on a couple of these.
States several RFBR builds. They must all go to Uzbekistan, never even heard of one shot in a match. Doesn’t use tuners because those barrel profiles are right on the edge of “ mission impossible” relative to tuning. ELR/PRS have no idea but for RFBR guy has the wrong approach.
There,’s valid reasons why about 99.9% of match barrels fall between .850”-.920” or so.

I have a Vudoo with a 25" 1.2" diameter Mullerworks barrel with an EC v2 tuner on it that was done by DI Precision late last year. I have not had a lot of time behind the scope on it yet, but so far it has impressed me and anyone else who has shot it. It's heavy as all get out but balances beautifully in a MPA competition chassis. Despite what some people think, I am convinced that even with that thick a barrel, the tuner helps to wring out that last little bit of accuracy; although the differences are minimal, there are visible differences. Once the weather gets a little better and I get a lot better at reading wind I'll know for sure.

I would definitely go with whatever you hear on UTube! Don't pay any attention to what these guys who spend many thousands of $$ and keep records of testing hundreds of hours trying to wring everything possible from their equipment. What would they know....?

There's a practical matter to consider. Can the tuner you are considering fit on that barrel diameter?

The most common tuners in RFBR are Harrell or PQP, both very similar. When I wanted to purchase a Harrell for use on a barrel with a 26mm (essentially 1") diameter at the barrel muzzle, I was told they would not bore to that diameter since there would not be sufficient material under the threads. I ended up ordering a Starik tuner/bloop tube which has served me well.

Are you referring to "Eagle Eye Shooting"?
If so, please take everything that guy says with a grain of salt. He is the most arrogant know-it-all I have ever had the misfortune of communicating with.
Some might say it takes one to know one, I guess I qualify...

We have a gentleman that shoots ARA Unlimited with us. He's using a DI Precision Vudoo 360 with a Krieger 1.25 straight cylinder barrel. Rifle shoots pretty good and he always finishes at the bottom of the pack. His scores usually run 1700 to 1900 per card.

You are getting a lot of good advice from the members above.

Perhaps the weak link is behind the trigger. I'm pretty sure that's the problem with my rifle!

Just put together exactly what your asking about...

22" Mullerworks 1.25" Straight
2500x
BnA Comp 2 Stage
PWC Rotex stock bedded by Randy
NF 15-55 Competition

Randy made the barrel channel 1.35" to accommodate testing all different size barrels.

I also have a 1.00" Ace and a 0.900 Shilen Ratchet on the way as well. Plan to test all 3 and see what shoots best and how big of a difference between the 3 barrels. Plan to test with and without tuner on the shilen and Ace and no tuner on this MW 1.25.. we shall see how big of a difference, if any. Randy told me he has some clients that only shoot 1.1-1.2" straight barrels he does stocks for

RF is a different animal in this regard. I actually like the stiffer barrel in rf, to a degree. There's pro's and cons but I think it has more pros. Peak accuracy is about tune but imagine a rf br rifle that never shoots big.

Another point, regardless of rf or cf. Bigger around is stiffer per inch but not necessarily stiffer overall. Just as an example, a 30" 1.250 straight is LESS stiff than a 23" HV. You just have to play with the numbers. Lilja has a stiffness calculator as a function of his weight calculator. Just google "lilja barrel weight calculator" and play with it. I guess at some point, it's possible to have a more typical .900 straight be stiffer than a longer but heavier contour but just play with his program. It's enlightening. Lol! Time well spent, either way, imho.

A stiff barrel can act like one that seems to want to shoot everything well. Something that a lot of people judge bbl quality by...fwiw.

I understand the majority of rimfire benchrest barrels are stainless steel. I recall reading that stainless steel and chrome moly barrels of the same dimensions are not equally stiff. Is there truth to that?
