Moly or Nitride rimfire barrel in bench rest

If you need to mess with a rimfire barrel, it should only be to get a new one.

Agree with the above. To the Cajun guy above your post, I shoot rifles not tractors, and my experience is different than his.

I’m not saying that it can’t work. But every barrel in that batch was ruined. I was convinced it would work or I would have handed mine over to get done.

I've had barrels that shoot great and done things to them like put brakes on them - and they shot terribly afterwards. Could never get some of them in tune afterwards. No doubt cutting the threads imprinted the bore a bit more than expected. I wonder what it is about that melonite that causes things to go bad for those who have such bad experiences. I know a few guys who had bad experiences too - and none that it improved anything. Buth then again - I don't know THAT many guys who use it- certainly not enough to make judgement. Seems hard to believe it can change the vibe much - but is a mystery to me.

I don’t think it’s a vibration issue. My guess is the bore somehow got screwed up.
