Do you rotate the brush in the direction of the rifling or against it?Have you tried the “bronze brush on a cleaning rod with a drill” method?
Against it, with the hammer drill switch on to vibrate that stuff looseDo you rotate the brush in the direction of the rifling or against it?
What worries you about doing that? I've done it several times. Are you worried about the reamer or the chamber? I'm curious because the reamer will never cut any part of the throat once the bbl has any wear at all. Is there something you've actually seen that worries you or just the idea? While we’re at it, how about using your reamer to remove that pesky carbon ring?

Nothing worries me about it….lol. I don’t chamber my own barrels, so I rarely have a reamer laying around. I’ve saw it mentioned on the forum before and the poor soul who mentioned it got drug pretty hard by the experts telling him that it would ruin the reamer.
I was just stirring the pot….
Oops...couldn't un quote my post. Not sure why that happened. But it really does work greatIve got drawers of reamers and have been doing bbl work for many years now. Having done it I can say for sure that it hurts neither but I can see why some would be squeamish about it until they think about what's actually happening when it's done. It's fast and easy..and absolutely works. Just oil the reamer up, carefully insert into the chamber and gently twist is clockwise with you fingers. Absolutely no metal removed and the carbon flakes right out. Not even a very critical area of the reamer.
