Anyone know if Barnes makes their own brass or does someone produce it for them? i did a search and found a couple of old threads around BBR brass but nothing about the current offerings from Barnes with the BARNES head-stamp. I have a new 35whelen rifle that I've started off with some factory Barnes 180ttsx ammo. i likely won't shoot tons of ammo through this rifle so if it likes the factory load i will likely just shoot factory loads through it. however i still like to have supplies on hand just in case i can't find factory ammo like back in 2008. I've never shot Barnes ammo or loaded any of their brass so looking for some input on its quality. if junk I'll look for something else to stock the shelf with. if serviceable then I'll try to stock an additionally supply of it. Thanks for any input.

I would guess Remington makes it or used to make it, but I don't know that for sure. I've used it in .308 and .300 Win. Magnum. As for the .300 Magnum brass (at least the batch I used), weight was lighter (221 grs.) than than Federal (253 grs.) and Winchester (240 grs.). Water capacity of the Barnes was also greater.
Good brass, just work up loads without assuming velocities and pressures will be the same as other brass. Again, my testing was limited and other lots of brass may be different from what I used.

Rem, at least circa 2008-09 time frame. I had bought up the remining 6-7 boxes of factory 150 gr ttsx for my .300 wsm Tikka T3 from Sportsman's Warehouse that went out of business locally. Still have all but a few pieces left. Just haven't started working up a load for it yet. To many other guns were used between then and now to shoot some Bambie's.
Remington also owned Barnes for some time, iirc Sierra no owns them. I guess it depends on the vintage of your brass on who would have made it.

The brass i have is currently still factory loaded ammo. I haven't shot it yet but was purchased in the last few months. i guess i will find out how it is in a few years. or if my rifle likes the factory barnes ttsx loads maybe i will just stock up on enough to last me plenty of years of hunting to come.
You could ask Barnes. I would imagine that there are only a limited number of lots of 35 Whelen ammo.

Save it when you do. If it's like any of the short mags brass currently. Glad I saved mine. Wasn't even close to reloading at the time. Just knew I would eventually. The price of any short mag brass nowadays.....ouch!
I save all my brass and everyone i hunt withs as well. I have a decent supply of 270wsm and 300wsm that ive collected etc over the years. I should have enough to last my lifetime of hunting with these rifles.
I did find some old threads on the bbr headstamped brass. The current offering that i have does not say that they have BARNES full name on them.I'm not sure who makes it, but here's a pic of some 5.56 I have if this helps:

Well that was really quick response. This is email response from barnes.
When we were owned by Remington we used Remington brass. With the sell from Remington to Clarus, 3-1/2 years ago we’ve been using Hornady brass since. If you have newly manufactured ammo which is in the new, dark grey box, you have Hornady brand brass, with Barnes headstamp.

Clarus Corporation now owns Sierra and Barnes, along with another mountaineering equipment company - Black Diamond or something like that. Stock price is pretty beat up. Been watching it for a while.
I can confirm this is the case as I have personally seen the cases of Hornady brass in production at the Barnes facility.

Just for a data point. I recently bought 100 Barnes cases from PV on sale. When compared to pre-bankruptcy Remington 35Whelen cases I found Barnes to be considerably lighter 168.9gr vs 193.4gr on average. I haven't loaded or fired any, as they are my reserve cases for a rainy day.
good info. PV? is that powder valley? with this brass being hornady brass, i believe i have a couple pieces of hornady brass available. i guess i need to weigh a piece of hornady headstamped brass and a piece of the barnes headstamped/hornady brass and see if they are consistant. i wouldn't think they would make a different quality of brass for the barnes ammo?
