barnes 70gr tsx and win 748

anybody use 70gr tsx's and win 748? anybody shoot the 70gr tsx's at all? looking for recipes for these in .223 rem.

that would be a good deer bullet down here in texas. especially on doe's only weighing about 90lbs dressed out. i'm jst curious to know how well they expand and at what velocities.

I am having similar thoughts. Most black tails dress out at 90lbs up here in nor-cal. Trying to find a high velocity load.

varget should be a good choice for 70's in .223. i've had great luck with it in almost everyting i shoot. i think a powder with a faster burn rate might be better for the lighter bullets in .223. varget and 55's shoot pretty okay out of mine tho.

Over the years I've found it hard to beat the 60gr Nosler Partition in any of 22caliber firearm. We used it for culling does and found that it make a great round for the ladies and youngsters, it also helps them from becoming recoil sensitive. I've seen far to many dads/husbands put their ten and twelve year old children and small framed spouses behind their light weight heavy recoiling rifles and wander why they are squinting with both eyes over half closed when they pull the trigger. They would be much better equipped with a .223 or 22-250 and enjoy the experience without suffering the effects of the recoil. Our lease is over run with feral hogs I keep a scoped XP 100 221 fireball in my ranch truck I've taken several hogs over 200 lbs with 60gr Partitions most actually just flinch when shot and walk or trot off less the 50 yds and just lay down and expire. One night I actually shot a large boar under a feeder at 150yds he flinched like a horse fly bit him and keep on eating after a couple of minutes passed he humped up and walked eleven paces and fell over kicked twice and gave up the ghost. You can easily reach speeds in excess of 3000fps and I found this bullet to shoot and group well in about every rifle or pistol.

Good luck
RJ

I haven't tried the 70gr Barnes. But I have tried the 70gr Berger with 25grs of W748 and they shoot in the .2's should work as well as the Barnes.

great info RJ. can you tell me more about shot placement and size of hogs. i'm also guessing that most did not exit. the reason i say that is cuz of the few deer i shot w/ a 22-250 and some 62gr. PP that did not go thru.
