Barnard P + V-Block + Stockys Extreme Range Laminate

Hey all,

Just bought all of these pieces to put together a good long-range rig. I have a process in mind for bedding the action into the stock - please point out any errors or suggestions:

1. Put stock in the mill and cut out an area for the action v-block + 0.125" in each dimension for epoxy.
2. Enlarge the barrel channel to 1.25" with a wooden dowel and sandpaper.
2. Make a few grooves in the wood at different angles for epoxy to grab.
3. Epoxy the V-Block in the stock, centering it by using the 1.25" wooden dowel as a guide.
4. Resist the urge to touch it for 24 hours.
5. Bed the action onto its bedding block as you would any other bedding job.

The purpose of the V block is to eliminate the need for bedding the action.

See Step #18 of the Whidden Instructions. It is not at all uncommon with V-Blocks to fill any remaining gaps between the block and the action to generate the most uniform interface/fit.

Start by reducing the height of the Barnard block if needed. It it pretty tall and none of my stocks were thick enough to handle the height.

Also, I would suggest using the actual barreled action for positioning during glue up.

Thanks for the tip!!! I'll make sure to chamber the barrel and screw it together first then.

Don't bother bedding over the block, when using a Barnard action there's no need as they're ground after heat treating so they're straight and round.
I've used the Barnard system without bedding 100's of times and never had an issue.
I make the block to stock fit snug (especially front and back) and machine bigger slots in the block below the "show line", done it this way even on 50 Cals and never had an issue.

+1 all our competition stocks use whidden v blocks and they work great without bedding the action.
