Barnard P Action Extractor Disassembly

How does one disassemble the Barnard P action extractor? I need to inspect it as it no longer reliably does its job. I have thoroughly flushed it and blown any debris out of it yet it still won't extract. My guess is that the spring needs replacing but I see no external way to disassemble it. What's the secret?

You have a great action in the Barnard model P. To remove extractor it's very easy. I put my bolt in a soft jaw vice, put a zip lock bag over the end of the bolt so you don't lose the spring behind extractor and use a pin punch it's quite small, less than 2mm from memory, then tap out the roll pin with a small hammer . Done!

It looks like Cigar Cop's video link to solve this problem is gone.

So, here is the link again; Bat has produced a great video showing how to remove and replace the Sako style extractor; https://www.batmachine.com/videos/how-to-remove-extractors-and-ejectors/

Shout if you have questions.

Toddy, I think you are referring to the ejector, not the extractor.

Thanks, I was able to douche it with starter fluid and compressed air and now it works like a champ.

Update: At a subsequent range session I was experiencing the same problem with the extractor. After inspecting and disassembling some suspicious rounds I discovered they were not properly sized and the OAL needed trimming. Those rounds made for a stiff bolt close and were over pressure, just enough to make the ‘worn’ extractor slip off the rim. Ordered a new extractor and doubled down on my brass inspection. Further testing to follow to corroborate these observations.

Update 2: The old extractor claw was definitely worn. Easy remove and replace job with new extractor kit from Whidden Gunworks. You could easily pull the case out of the bolt face with the old xtractor but the new one holds it secure. Glad I discovered this before heading off to the SWN.
