ballistic filler

Greetings all,

I have been developing a load for my 6mmBR which is starting to look pretty good. As I try to tighten things up a bit, I notice my load of 30 gr Varget comes up to just below the lower shoulder line. I thought that using an inert filler to top things off at the top shoulder might help with consistency. Any input from experimenters would be help full here. Back in the day, Cream o Wheat was used for this purpose. Is this a good material to use? I don't see it mentioned much any more, was there a problem with it? There is some new,?) stuff for sale advertised in Prec Shooting, but I'd like to try the idea out with an established material to see what impact it has before trying a large amount some some fancy new stuff. Howdy !

You might get by w/ a " filler ", IF your powder is not too porous.

With ball powders, I used " PUFFLON " successfully.
It has additives that help "lube" the bore.

I say, save the Cream O' Wheat for breakfast.

Working toward some subsonic stuff a while back I was told to stay away form any man made fillers. it is hard to find in small quantities but I was told to us Kapok witch is a natural fiber witch burns up quickly with out residue. this was what I was told anyway. I was able to get some on EBay but then changes directions and never got back to playing with the subsonic stuff.
This info I was told came from Sierra. So it might be worth a call to then and see what hey say about it.
If in fact this is what you find in your quest and want to try some I would be more then happy to send you some for a test if you like since I never got back to using what I bought at least not yet anyway.

Puflon is the "new" material I've recently seen advertised, its on my list to try if this method makes for better ammo.

Kapok rings a bell. A search on the net says its very cottony-like material harvested from seed pods of tropical trees. I'm interested in knowing more about developing loads with it if someone has some info to share. Since kapok is so cottony - is cotton a good choice. The cream of wheat could start to mix with the powder after enough handling. The kapok or cotton wouldn't mix and keep the powder where it belongs.

Has anyone produced more consistent loads and or better groups with a ballistic filler. Thanks, Hanic
