Bag set up for pistols ?

Recently got into the whole T/C contender game. Playing with 7mm TCU and honestly having a blast making brass and just plinking. That being said I'm not really a pistol guy and I'm a bit clueless on a lot of the finer points. Especially when it comes to bench shooting. Just curious what does eveyone do as far as a bag set up/rest for load testing and the like for their various pistols ? Just been using my rifle set up but....well squished together lol ! Actually surprised with how stable it is.
Thanks :)

Not being much of a benchrest pistol guy, that setup looks pretty decent. It's essentially what I do when I'm testing the accuracy of a pistol. With that caliber though it looks like you'll never need to shave. That fireball will burn the hairs right off. :)

Is that H335? Had an XP years ago that spouted that kind of flame when loaded with H335, and that was with a 14" barrel!! Good stuff, and oh my yes there really is a T/C rabbit hole syndrome. I'm sure there is some sort of support group in your area.

I prefer this setup. Rest maker is sadly no longer with us, but they can be had on the secondary market occasionally. I believe the pictured rest was one of the last He made. It is called a Fuzz Rest and also comes in a steel version.
Pistol has changed a little over the years. It now has a Flatside frame and a Leupold Scope. It weighs about 10 pounds and you can watch the hits through the scope.

I do not let the butt of the pistol sit on a rear bag. Instead, I support my forearms, fully extended with two small sandbags so I obtain a somewhat repeatable recoil reaction from the pistol.

I use a front rest with the pistol resting on the front rest, just forward of the trigger guard, i.e., the barrel not directly sitting on the front rest).

I edited this to clarify that this is the set up I use for revolvers, and it may not apply to T'C's with forearm stocks like rifles.

looks just like mine same rest and a variety of bags work for me. I have been lately thinking of making a 3-4" platform to put on the bench first, age and arthritic neck, I did try lowering the seat but then have an issue getting up on my feet after sitting a while to long.

NICE FLAMEAGE !!!!!! by the way

The best support group EVER they keep MAKING you buy MORE !!! Thankfully I never fell in to far I think I am down to only 40 barrels now at one time 80+ TCAA would only enable not help

Ah Yes; my first, and favorite Handgun. More like an “Anthill Labyrinth” if the bug bites you hard enough!
Four receivers and a dozen barrels later, I need to get them all out to the range again this coming Spring. Have taken some nice Bucks with my 10” .30-30, and Super 14 in 7 TC/U, as well as a few Groundhogs.
As for the set up, I use a similar position, but only my hands touch the rear bag; this helps with consistency (for me) during recoil.
Excellent post, Sir!

I've got an MTM (same one that makes the boxs) That I bought used on ebay several years ago Wolfdog. It is infinitely adjustable and light. I have no idea if they still make them but they should. Gary
