Bag or Bi-pod

No rear bag is dumb. Intentionally making things unstable only hurts the new shooters. I hate it when MD's do this. Some MD's are living is the past some and some are too PMS for their own good.

I would shoot it properly and take the zero for score.
Where I shoot it's an optional class.
I prefer it, but it's not becoming very popular overall.

I tried several different types of bags and a couple of different bipods before I stumbled across a bipod thread here on the forum in which someone mentioned a F class bipod made by a forum member named Tarey down in Texas. After looking around at various types and comparing the prices, I contacted him and ended up buying one. They adjust down to the point where the mag is almost touching the bench or floor, and up easily as high as any conventional bipod, they're easily leveled, are light and rock solid. The only quibble might be that they have a wider footprint when set down low. I never take any of the others out now.

Look around, try as many of the options as you can, but if these suit your purpose, contact him at Firefox Engineering, 480 720-7505. Nice guy, good product.

I always prefer a good bi-pod (nothing is worse than a bad wobbly bi-pod) to a bag for a rifle that doesn't have a flat for-end for shooting off a rest.
The reason is it is much easier to control canting especially when you are not using a rear bag. The two bi-pods I use are the Sinclair F-class and the Sinclair tactical. Either of these bi-pods allow you to adjust the cant with the level on the rifle and then lock it in. The f-class bi-pod is my first choice as it is very stable and can be adjusted very low if necessary. There are better bi-pods for F-TR shooting but they cost a lot more.
Before moving to SC, I used to shoot the Carlos Hathcock match at the Cherry Ridge Range in NJ. This match required a folding bi-pod and no rear bag. That is why I went to the Sinclair tactical bi-pod. This bi-pod folds and has two settings for how wide the front feet can be set. On the wide setting you can get the bi-pod nice and low and it is more stable. I used to set the bi-pod wide and low then put my left hand flat, palm down under the butt end of the stock. By slightly flexing my left hand I could control the elevation. This was a very stable shooting position but it helped to use a thick glove on the left hand to cushion the weight of the gun. This method can be used off a bench or prone. I didn't win the Hathcock match but I came damn close, and I was on the winning team one year.

Hathcock was fun. Edit as I found my results. A 13th, four 1st places, and one 1st on a winning team. All for Marines. Damn did better than I originally thought. LOL
Four 1st places is quite an accomplishment for that match. I was shooting for the civilians. I believe one year I was 1st in the civilian category but lost overall to a Marine.
Do they still have the Hathcock at Cherry Ridge?

Not sure. Probably outlawed by now. LOL Seriously I hadn't shot it since around 2010 I think. Used to live in CT. I live in NC now so not driving up anyways.
