Bad news for lovers of Kroil......

Having been in the automotive industry for 50+ years, and having access to every penetrating oil available, and using every penetrating oil available, we always went back to Kroil. The test in the video does not represent a wide range of fasteners, or the means of corrosion. When you're working 100% commission, you look at the frozen fastener and make a decision, 1 snap it off, flame wrench, Kroil.

I have a CVA in-line black powder rifle. Fired it, next day attempted to remove the breach plug. It was frozen. I did not have Kroil at the house so I used what I had, something from KENT. I let it sit in the barrel that was suspended in a vice over night. Next day when I came home from work (with Kroil) it would not budge, Emptied the Kent and washed out the barrel. Poured Kroil down the barrel, waited 20 minuets, breach plug broke free with ease.

Maybe penetrating oil is like fishing lures, if you have confidence it will work, eventually.

A few years ago I got a 28 Nosler case stuck in a die...stupid.

Anyway Kroil wouldn't get it but PB blaster did. We have conversations about PB vs Kroil at work ever so often and when I tell my experience some guys will say Kroil loosened it up, who knows.
All I know is PB smells like cancer and death, Kroil only smells like wet dog and lysol.

PB Blaster used to be "the" one. Until I tried Deep Creep by Seafoam. PB isn't even in the same league. I've had very good results with Deep Creep often on things I think will never move. I take care of an island surrounded by salt water and covered with salt air. So corrosion is always a problem and I've used it a time or two.

Crc makes one called knock r loose which is what crc decided to make the day kroils patent wore off. Its 100% identical and way cheaper. Can be bought thru fastenal
So it would be the same as kroll in gun cleaning/light lube? I use kroll to rid bore of chemical then patch out the kroll.

So, I found a couple tests of penetrating liquids

Net: Liquid wrench is better at loosening rusted stuff than Deep Creep or PB Blaster.

I just saw this evaluation of penetrating oils from my favorite source, Project Farm, on Youtube:
Looks like Liquid Wrench might be getting a spot on my bench soon....
Oh wow! Sorry, I didn't see your post. I just found the same reviews.

Torch and a big hammer.....

I bought a case of "Free' from our tool vender years
ago. It does work better then PB and smells better.
Label on the can is vender specific and not found in
normal retail. An oil called "Free All" can be found at
Auto Zone, and does work well.

Now about that torch.....I was shown a trick with stuck
truck king pins. Heat the area evenly and melt in some
bees wax. The guy that showed me was an engineer on
the Lake Freighters. The old timers kept blocks of the
stuff in the engine room.

Old school pipefitters use this also.

Today I just ran across this:
Most of the results differ from my previous posting, but the Liquid Wrench still does pretty well, especially for the price. The ATF/Acetone surprised me!

I’ve been a Sprinklerfitter for 32 yrs now, and this is the first I’ve heard of the “Beeswax trick”! Lol
I’m DEFINITELY going to try that next time I’m trying to back out some 100yr old rusted 6” pipe! That happens pretty frequently around here.

Heat and paraffin wax works as well. It does not have to be bee's wax. Of course all the old timers back in the day had bees wax. Like my grandpa that collected the honey from wild bee hives. He didn't throw anything away, and the bees wax was definitely a commodity.
As for me I like Kroil, Deep Creep, pretty much anything other than that stinking crap PB.

My two “Go To” for rusted nuts/ bolts are Kroil and PB Blaster. If they cannot loosen ur problem, it’s time to cut the offending fasteners off.
