B&L Balvar 6-24 external adjustable scope

I posted this on a thread in the marketplace and it dawned on me that this belonged here...

Recently scooped one of these at an auction. It is in great shape, but...the adjustment ring is frozen.

Anyone know of anyone working on these scopes?

The rear ring W&E setup is Rube Goldberg-ish and seemingly doomed to fail if you use it enough. I have had several, great optics. Regarding the rear ring, a replacement is available from Steve Earle. Its a takeoff of the old Kuharsky Brothers rear ring for this scope. Fixing the original only buys you some time till is fails again imo.

I have had this scope but mine already had a Unertil rear mount set up on it. It is a great scope. That was a very unique rear ring set up. Scope if bought right is well worth fixing or just switching to the Unertil.

Cal,
I have one that i bought the same way. Take out the adjustment crowder spring and get the assembly off the scope. Drop the whole adjustment assemby into solvent and let it soak. My was full of dryed grease. After a 1/2 hour it was free. I then disassembled and let it soak over night the put it back together the next night after a good cleaning and fresh lube.

The other issue, imo, with the original B&L rear ring is that its a two adjustment contraption. First you rough in the POI with the screws under the caps, then you use the knurled ring to "dial in" the final adjustment. The Earle ring is just so much easier, why frig with second rate design.
