B&C barrel channel question

Hey guys I just bought a bell and Carlson varmint/tactical stock for my savage target action. I ran into a problem when I put my barreled action in there isn't nearly enough clearance to free float the barrel. I'm wondering if anybody has an easy way to open that up while keeping it looking nice?

Wrap sandpaper around a socket and keep changing to larger sockets until it fits. The barrel will hide the channel, so you don't have to worry about looks.

Had to do that with 2 of my B&C Medalist stocks. The barrels were both touching the forend on the right side, plenty of clearance on the left. Used 80 grit wrapped around an appropriate diameter wooden dowell & painted over with flat black paint.
