Athlon Ares etr gen2 15x60

My experience with a sample size of only one of the new gen Athlon 15-60 is that 3.7 is fantasy.
My experience with Three different Athlon is the eye relief isn't fantasy. There are 7 other shooters at our range using this scope. So I guess we disagree.

Every ones eyes are a bit different and our experiences will be similar but not the same in most cases
it seems. Some scopes that fit my vision don't work with my shooting friends at all...go figure
its just how it is and my one eye aint too good anymore.

I reckon so. It happens. Might just be my old eyes.
Very well could be. A good friend and I both prefer to shoot on days that are overcast as we both seem to see more contrast on paper targets than on days with clear skies and bright sun.

Another friend has a NF Competition and both appear the same to my eye only I do not like the reticle in the NF. I have shot both and really do not see any difference in my target scores. So that may be my eyes!

I bought one last year and have been more than happy with it. My eyes aren’t the greatest either, but I really have no complaints, especially for the money. Parallax is definitely touchy. Yes, it does get darker at a higher magnification, find me one that doesn’t. But I haven’t found it to be too dark. At mid range magnification, my eyes find it to be clear and bright. One con, is my rear ring obscures my windage turret. I rarely, if ever dial for windage so no big deal. I like it better than the Sightron’s I’ve looked through. I like it better than the GE. I like it better than the Nightforce Competition, based mainly on the price tag. I can’t compare it to other high-end scopes since I haven’t looked through the March’s, Majestic’s, Kahle’s etc. And I wouldn’t, that’s a silly comparison.

Subsequently, I find the whole debate between scopes rather humorous. As Sandstorm said, everyone’s eyes are different, thus our experiences are different. Based on what discipline and distance you shoot, your vision, and what you’re trying to accomplish, let that dictate your approach to choosing your glass.

Personally, I swear, I think it’s just another equipment race. I’ve seen guys that seemed to get more enjoyment by showing their rig off than actually shooting well.

Amen to the Equipment Race...........

I'm retired and not wealthy so I seriously wanted this $1000 scope to work for me. Unfortunately it did not so my eyes need filet mignon but my wallet needs budget burger.............so I save up.

Did someone say race?

You see these topics come up all the time, "What's the best scope for this"
Usually a rookie. Each person has to go through the process of personally
looking through each scope and see what YOU like. No if's and's or but's.
I have a Athlon Ares on my 22lr, but I don't compete and it works great for my needs.
I did put a NF comp. on it, was it better, yes. But I don't need that much scope on a
22lr not used for high end competition. I have them on my centerfire bench rifles.
If you compete, then a notch up in scope might be helpful.
I haven't found my Ares holding me back for target shooting.
