Athlon Ares etr gen2 15x60

Was wondering if anybody’s using one of these scopes and how they like it. Thinking of buying one for a gun and building. I have a 15x60 Heras and have been happy with it for the money. Just curious how the ares gen 2 glass is. Thanks

I had the first Gen, I liked it, glass was very good, but the reticle just didn't work for me.

You're welcome. I would have kept the scope, but the floating dot just didn't work for me. the S6 I am using I like better.

Yeah I been looking at the s6 also. Just a pretty big price difference. I have slot of other Sightrons I like to. Just haven’t been around any s6 yet

I went to the S6 because I couldn't get the same deal, I got on a new S5 10-50X SVED I wanted a SVED getting this S6 I don't think I made any compromises. the bigger dot size and more defined reticle actually has helped moving from one bull to another faster pickup on the dot for POA placement.

I run a gen1 (Ares) on a rimfire. Like it.
But I tried it cause I have gone to all floating dot centers on all my rifles.
Just shows you need to buy what you like (reticle)
The reticles are the same (sub tension) except one has the floating dot center
and the Heras has the fine crosshair.
From what I've heard, they only worked on the turrets on the gen2
The Ares has slightly better glass than the Heras.
I did have a Argos and sold it. The glass wasn't good.

Thanks for the info. I like my Heras. But not crazy about the retical in it. Don’t like the small gap between the crosshairs in the center. I have other floating dots. So should work

With lower priced glass (in most companies) you will notice some issues
might be you can't seem to focus or blurry vision.
And you can't seem get rid of it.
Doesn't matter if you eyes are good or not, you have to start with good glass.
Good eyesight won't correct bad glass, but to a point good glass can be
helpful to bad eyesight if you adjust the scope to clean it up some.
Everyones eyes see differently.

I have been shooting short bench, 100-300yds, and using a Argos 10-40X56 for the past two years. Moved to this after trying to use a FFP 8-34X56 MRAD, Love this reticle as it is the same one the Ares uses.

Now that I have learned more first hand from the two scopesI have used I hope to upgrade this summer to the Ares 15-60 GEN2 to help fight mirage. Plus the GEN2 is illuminated.

I received mine Wednesday. I’ve spent 2 days on the porch with it so far comparing to a GE, NF Comp and Kahles 10-50.

It’s been cold and rainy here (SW AZ, go figure) but I’ve spent hours with it during the clouds and when the sun poked out. It is CLEAR and BRIGHT.

I’ll caveat the following with the fact I’ve not been able to see how it sees/handles mirage at long range due to weather but in good conditions it sees houses and one farm sign at 1970 yds as clearly as the Kahles and absolutely SMOKES the GE.

It’s not a Kahles or Comp but for $1034 to $1100 and something it is damned good………in good conditions

I agree. I received mine yesterday. Have not mounted it yet. Just looking through it. Definitely blows my golden eagle away. And evey bit as good as the s3 Sightron and nightforce br

Down and dirty.

Zeroed easy at 100 yds, set zero stop (easy) and figured dope and moved to Shot Marker. 2 sighters and away I went.

It is clear and bright at 60x. First string I was able to place the floating dot on and see the four corners of the X on a 600 yd NRA MR-1FC target and that’s what my Shot Marker was set for.

Pretty easy to get behind, forgiving eye box at 60X and decent eye relief.

First string was right after sunrise and had the usual weird mirage but was able to shoot thru it….mostly.

2nd string 1 hr after sunrise even better and more clear and score reflected that.

3rd string 2 hrs after sunrise and there was mirage. More sharp than the mellow (shimmering) mirage I get from my March 15-60 HM or my NF Comp but it subsided every few seconds and if you shoot in the clear spots it works.

Comparing it to the 2 scopes above isn’t really fair considering their double and 3x the price but that’s what I have so no options.

Definitely worth the money

IMHO

Wondering if you had the first version to compare it to? On the first version the parallax was very sensitive, I am wondering if they tweaked it?
