I was looking on the "USED" rack at Cabelas today and picked up a 12FV, 6.5 CM priced at $559! And I'm like WTF?
I go over to the gun counter and look at the tag on a new 12FV...$419.00, the normal full price.
Is Creedmore marketing that good that it deserves 33% markup, USED?
This has nothing to do with Cabela's. I have not been to any large chain gun store that has good prices on used rifles. If you want good prices on a used rifle go to a pawn shop were you can haggle!
I love how when I posted about a sale my post was deleted becasue "Cabela's has issues honoring their own sales prices!" on the other hand this thread biased the other way seems fine! What is this like CNN or something it is ok to hate on Cabela's but you can not say anything good or list sales with out being deleted.
If this is how things work I am thinking the real reason is because Cabela's is bad for sponsors on this site that sell rifles and gear.
I do not have a problem with feeding those that support the site but I do not expect to have anyone pee in my face and tell me it's raining! LOL I think it is always best to be honest about such things lest no one call you a liar or point out you bias or hypocrisy. I have 3 sons and I have never lied to them about anything! I have lied to plenty of people but never to my sons!
Have you seen how bad financing is on used car's compared to new car's? How about the huge price difference buying a used car from a dealership compared to buying from a private seller?
To be honest it is almost stupid for big box gun stores and outfiters to take in privately owned used guns or to sell those. Surplus military weapons and police trades would make sense. Also generally it is not so smart to buy a used rifle at these places and it has not been for close to 20 years.
I bought a 2007 Camry with 94K miles today that looks like it rolled off the assembly line yesterday inside and out with impeccable maintenance records off a private individual with ZERO haggling for $3000 a dealership would be asking $6500 to $9000 for a car of this year with an extra 30K to 50K miles no maintenance records. This is not an exception it is the norm. Gander Mtn and Bass Pro(before they bought Cabela's) were and still are the same way. Williams Gunsight locally to me is insanely priced on every rifle new or used and optics too. 20 years ago their prices where about what they are today so when you could get a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade for under $500 at Gander Mtn. Williams wanted just under $1000 their huge glut of beat up abused Marlin 336's were about the same price as a brand new one at any of the big box outfitter stores.
This will likely be deleted since it is pro-Cabela's and can not be matched by any sponsor on this site or they chose not to match it depends on who you believe and how far up the supply chain you are able to buy and any discounts . If you want a Savage 12FV you need to wait about ever 6 to 9 months once around father's day and again during the year Cabela's will offer the Savage 12FV in 308, 223 and 6.5CM $100 off for $319. Same thing goes for the S&W Shield 9mm $249+tax. Get outraged. Price is flexible and has nothing to do with price to produce an item. Oh and the cheapest place for an individual to buy a T/C Compass is Cabela $299 practical year round. About ever 6 months Anderson AR-15 lower $49+tax. To date I have bought 2 of each no problem getting the advertised price and most of my family have done the same no problem getting that price while supplies lasted.
A consumer has to be his own advocate in purchasing anything and do his home work you can not assume anything or think "life" or retailers will be fair and just and give a customer the best deal! My local butcher sells top notch USDA graded meats for 1/2 the price that Walmart does with pork and beef. In fact Ribeye's, T-Bones and Porterhouse steaks are 1/2 the price per pound. I will typically buy $300 or more worth of beef at a time and they will give me about another $.75 off per-pound. Sadly their price for chicken is much higher than Walmarts. I buy my pork and beef at my butchers but I buy my chicken from Walmart. Another thing about buying from my butcher I can get my meats cut any way I want in any thickness I want. I can even get ground beef made locally from my butchers scraps so I know exactly what I am getting and know that there is no pink slime in my ground beef! My Doctor will tell you the same thing a patient has to be their own advocate and educate themselves if they want the best health care just blindly trusting your doctor is foolish and most doctors will tell you that today!
I am glad you noticed this though because if someone had told you it would have gone in one ear and out the other. The only way to learn the lesson better would be to get ripped off release it latter once it is too late to do anything about it. The bitter taste of such life lessons tends to stick with us forever!
Outrage is usually worthless and does little to nothing for us other than making for an emotionally charged story at the bar with the guys!
Glad you did not get suckered!!! Cheer's!!!
