1" isn't too close. Especially when torqued to 14IP.I don’t think I’ve ever seen rings that close to the turrets .
Agreed. But at the time I couldn't afford a NF. For $1200, the GE is a deal.A man’s time, components, barrel life, sanity, are all far too valuable to be using any vortex product. Warranty aside. By the time you realize that you’re needing the warranty, what are you out?
i have always thought the farthest the rings were apart the better to hold everything. I would move the rear ring back 2 slots and the front ring all the way forward. That front ring does look closer than where I would put it. I've felt tension on the windage turret knob when I have had them that close.
Yeh I didn't think it was your problem, I was just referring to JFrank's statement, it brought it too mind and thought I would throw it out there and maybe help someone else avoid some trouble. I know a lot of people fail to read instructions sometimes. On a side note though why didn't you move your front ring forward an inch or more? One reason to have them spread out as much as possible is they support the scope better and if your rifle falls and impacts something there I less chance of bending the tube. No, no, & no. Screws were torqued to 14 IP. Scope has been on rifle for 1 year without issue.View attachment 1696928
I hope you didn't take my post the wrong way, I agreed with your post and it brought to mind what I had read in Vortex's instructions and what I have seen happen with placing rings too close to the turret. I thought it might help someone avoid some trouble in the future.Man I’m a fool for ever getting involved in this thread even the slightest, helping people just isn’t worth the hassle of getting it thrown back in your face.
It’s the very reason several members just won’t post any further.

Your mother might not allow you to buy a new scope???Well, I told you it wasn't wind.
And I told you I checked my dope prior to shooting.
Turns out, I'm not crazy!
At 100yds this AM, I missed a 24" piece of paper...twice.
Went to 25yds. Hit paper was low left. Dope settings were for 100yds .
Tried to zero at 25yds but it ain't happening. Scope isn't holding zero. It moves with every shot.
So there it is. Now to tell Mama I'm buying a new scope.
Wish me luck.
Buy once, cry once!Well, I told you it wasn't wind.

I would guess that he strained it by shooting out to 500 yds. That would void the warrantyCool you got it figured out.
But, remember, it started with a great group at 100, then 'all over the place' at 500.
Sounds like the scope went bad between the 100 yard group and the shooting at 500 yards.
