A bud of mine bought a Savage 23D(Ithink) and he's asking me questions I can't answer. First he's worried about value if he makes it a K Hornet and second, he said it has some holes in the barrel that he wanted to have welded up then turned smooth again. Then re-blue the metal. Just me, but I think its a waste of money. I don't know about welding on the barrel but I sure might consider making it a K Hornet.

Unless he’s re-chambering, keep the original barrel in addition to the K.

I’m guessing the holes are threaded? If so, put set screws in them. The welded metal might not blue the same as the rest of the barrel and I think it would look worse.

That's what I suggested. Small filler screws would be the safe way and to me would look OK and no damage.
