All (5) of mine are the EPL-4Anyone have any experience with the EPLs?
There are a plethora of ARD's on amazon, some for 56mm objectives. Ratings are hit or miss. However, if you can get your hands on any ARD you can at least use some painters tape to get a really rough idea of if an ARD will work for your glare issues. If that goes well, perhaps there is a way to source the honeycomb material pre-cut. Then cut your self and install in the sun shade. Just some ideas...I like Arken Scopes.
Have an EP5 on my latest rifle.
Agree they would benefit from some lighter weight more compact 2FP designs for hunting.
That said, the one thing that causes me frustration with the EP5 is some of the worst frontal light glare I've experienced. If towards the setting sun -not directly into the scope, of course, but anywhere around 30 degrees near, even with an extra sun shade extension, mine washes out near to the point of being usable, compared to some other similar price range scopes side by side on the line at the same time. Those other scopes did show some various degrees of flare, but all remained usable on the target. Some surprisingly held their own (In flare reduction) with scopes costing almost eight times as much.
Otherwise, in any other (non-frontal) lighting, it's a great value, mostly on a par with some of those more expensive scopes, with excellent resolution, click tactility, tracking, etc.
I wish Arken would offer honeycomb ARD's for their scopes.
No way to know how much it would help, but would like to try one.
If anyone has found one of these sized for the EP5 5-25x56, I hope they will post it.
3D printing would seem a good possibility for making these in the more affordable Arken fashion.
What are the other scopes you were more happy with? Not trolling or flaming, just trying to get an idea of where your tastes in scopes land.I`ve never seen a more OVER-HYPED scope in my life.
And yes, i fell for the hype, and it got sent back to arken a few days later.
Never again would i bother with this brand.
Ok, now FLAME ON!
I went back to Athlon and Vortex. Cleaner glass. Better reticles. What are the other scopes you were more happy with? Not trolling or flaming, just trying to get an idea of where your tastes in scopes land.
Which level/brand line of Athlon, seems like their products run the gammut from okay-ish to $800+. I'm trying to see where in that lineup you prefer the Athlon scopes vs the Arken you bought. Also, which arken was it?I went back to Athlon and Vortex. Cleaner glass. Better reticles.
And illuminated reticles that you can actually use and see during daylight.
