Arizona hunters in here please

I had a change of plans, Im moving to Glendale, Az in 2 weeks due to an awesome job offer. Just looking for some opinions on the hunting out there and where all the good ranges are!! Im really intrested to hear any stories if anyone could share that would be great!

Lots of game to shoot. But a lot takes drawn for a permit. Ben Avery is the premier range. Also Usery Mtn and Buckeye Hills. And lots of BLM land to shoot on.

We lived in Gilbert, AZ for several years before retiring. Now we move to AZ every winter. ;)
Where are you moving from?

The game in the western states is to build points. You get a point when you don't draw a tag, the people with the most points get the tags. The better hunting units require the most. You apply for everything, every year building points. You can apply to build points only or you apply for the best hunt in the state.

I put 2 of my varmint rifles up for sale, 17 fireball and 204 ruger. Do you think these calibers have a use out there? They were my groundhog guns. My two main varmint guns are a fast twist 22-250ai and a fast twist 223.

The 204 would make a good P dog gun, along with the 22 250
When one gun gets hot switch to the other. I would keep it.

Head up to the Flagstaff and Winslow area. You'll find those P dogs virtually everywhere ;)
You will also find the biggest coyotes with the prettiest and fullest pelts you have ever laid eyes on! If you need help with direction while up there, contact Gary, at Gary Reeder Custom Guns in Flag.

Ben Avery Long Range season starts Saturday, Palma and 1000 next weekend. That is the closest range to Glendale. Watch for your hunting application dates as you may draw but you have to start to build points. The success rate is high so a little short on tags. All the coyotes you want to chase.

Go to desertsharpshooters.com for the calender of all rifle shooting at 3 clubs.

Is there a map to show where all the blm lands are that are open to shooting? I used to live in Nv so Im kinda familiar with it.

For a map of BLM lands, buy the Gazeteer - Arizona Edition. Sportsman's Warehouse & Cabela's carry them. I've also seen them at Walmart.
