Arizona Elk tag questions

I remember another thread on here about 1500 and up woodchuck hunts... unbelievable to me that guys would spend that kind of money to shoot chucks.

At the couple gun ranges I frequent, I still here about guys going west for elk, mule deer and antelope. Arizona isn't mentioned though. It's usually states further north.

I have applied in the west and northeast for many years, buying 40+ preference and bonus points each year.
I helped so many guys that when I retired I started a small side line Bairs hunting adventures ltd., I sold my accounts to one of the big guys 2 years ago.
Living in Texas I would advise you to look at New Mexico, they have a refundable license fee if you don't draw and a reasonable application fee.
Many units can be self guided if you feel capable of doing so, if not try contacting
Kiowahunting.com.
Please PM me if you have any other questions.

The reason I wanted to go to AZ was because a "friend of a friend" owns land there, and was going to host us for the hunt. He even mentioned the fact that he draws a tag every 5 years or so. I think I will just stay here in Texas, and shoot our whitetails, and figure something else out for my son's special trip.

I have been in AZ for 40 years and I can remember when the Elk Foundation tag sold at the banquet for $1,000.00 and we laughed at the guy who bought it. Now they are in excess of $250,000.00 for a Governors Tag. Sheep are even more expensive.

In the early days we were mailed large pink postcards saying you failed to draw a tag. I successfully used those cards for 8 trips to Alaska for moose and caribou. 27 years ago a 7 day float trip in the Mulchatna River was $1,750.00 and now you are looking at $25,000 base price.

The draw system sucks but it still is one of the best managed elk populations in the country. Again put in for a cow or get a deprivation tag list and forget about the horns it is still one of the greatest places to listen to them bugle on a frosty morning.
