Are Wolf/Tula Magnum primers hotter than the regular LR primers?

Over winter I was having issues with my SAUM when using the regular Tula LR primers. I was getting delayed ignition a few times and much wider ES/SD than when I checked it in warmer weather. I was thinking the regular LR Tulas are not quite hot enough for the larger cases in cool weather so I have been thinking about trying the magnum version. Does anyone know if the Tula/Wolf Magnum LR primers are actually hotter than the regular LRs or just have a thicker cup as with the SR primers?

A few years ago I did some unscientific testing between the Wolf LR and the LRM primer. The cartridge was the 6XC with a 105 bullet and H4350 powder. The same load was shot over a chronograph only changing out the primers.
The Wolf LRM primer gave 10fps more velocity. I hope this helps.

I've seen the Wolf SRM do the click, wait for it, bang thing before. Never had it happen with any PMC/Wolf/Tula LR primer whether Magnum or not. That having been said, I have chronoed the Wolf LRM, PMC LR, and Tula LR and really did not see any significant velocity difference. That was in multiple calibers with different powders (from 8208 to RE22, fast to slow, and 243 to 300 SAUM).

FWIW.....

At one time Wolf Stated that the magnum primer was the same compound as the regular. The only difference being the thickness/hardness of the cup. I've used the two interchangeably with no quantifiable difference in velocity or precision.

I tested Wolf LR Wolf LRM and Tula LRM in .308 Palma loads.
The only difference was S.D.

I have read the same as above harder cups only.

On you fail to ignite ? it has been said Wolf need to be seated well ? I cut all my primer pockets when my brass is New .

MP,

If it only happened in cold weather is it possible that any lubricant in the bolt/firing pin could be thickening up and causing drag, reducing the firing pin's momentum. Happened to me with two rifles moving from a warm to cold region. Cleaning out the bolt and using a very light viscosity oil, cured the misfires.

Richard.
