TULA OR WOLF?

Can someone tell me their experience with Wolf and Tula Primers. Is there any difference or are they the same. They are made in the same plant I think. I have exhausted my supply of TULA and can't find them locally. Would like to know if the WOLF brand will give me the same results. Help me out here please. Maybe I should say that I am using the LR Tula brand in a .260 REM.

WOLF Performance Ammunition is a trademark associated with Sporting Supplies International (SSI), a corporation in the United States. The ammunition is mostly manufactured by Tulskiy Patronniy Zavod (Tula Cartridge Plant) in Tula, Tula District, Russia. Some .22-caliber rimfire ammunition is made by SK Jagd und Sportmunitions Gmbh (SK Hunting- and Sporting-Ammunition) of Schönebeck, Salzlandkreis, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Powder Valley has sold out of them. Is there a difference in performance or are they the same Primer?

During the Great Patriotic War (World War II) of 1941–1945, the city was important in the production of armaments. Tula became the target of a German offensive to break Soviet resistance in the Moscow area between October 24 and December 5, 1941. The heavily fortified city held out, however, and Guderian's Second Panzer Army was stopped near Tula. The city secured the southern flank during the Battle of Moscow and the subsequent counter-offensive. Tula was awarded the title Hero City in 1976. It is home to the Klokovo air base and the Tula Arms Plant.


A little history on Tula, I think its safe to say they are the same :

Interesting but still does not answer my question, sorry. I do not want to buy Wolf if they are not the same. They may well be the same, but!!! Just for instance, would you assume 210/M Primer and 210 are the same?
I plan on buying a large quantity and do not want to get them on an assumption. That is the reason for my question here on the forum. I am sure there are quite a few members who have tried both. I am not sure as to why no one has answered yet. Maybe they are watching ALABAMA putting it to MISSISSIPPI STATE right now, I am.

I've had excellent results with both brands, whether small or large primer. All the cases I've bought (since 2003) have Murom Apparatus Plant stamped on the outside, regardless of primer size or product type (regular vs. magnum... never felt a need for their NATO-compliant type).

Early on I had some cratering / piercing issues with the plain-jane KVB223 primers but these were from the very first batch Bob Jones imported on his own I believe back around 2002. Switched to the KVB223REM type (thicker cup but same charge) and that went away.

All I've used have easily led me to SD's less than 10 with a bit of load testing, usually less than 8 if I'm being really careful.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a large quantity of either 'brand' knowing that if they don't perform up to my expectations they'd be pretty easy to hawk at matches I attend going forward. Your needs may be different (I shoot sling & irons mostly, long- and mid-range NRA competition) so act accordingly.

not bad for steel cased bulk. I shot a respectable 5.5" group @ 200 meters with my Yugo Opap AK-47 .

I may not be able to give you a definitive "yes/no", but I have and have used PMC, Wolf, and Tula in LR and LRM. With very few exceptions, they are my favorite LR primers. I have seen some differences in accuracy, but to be honest, I did not retune the load, just swapped primers with a known load. I would descibe the difference as changing lot numbers. At least that is my experience with the "Russian" primers.

When I run out of BR2's (it'll be a while), I will not buy more, but I will keep the "Russians" regardless of the name on the box.

Thanks, Good to hear hands on experience. I think I will wait out for the TULA brand as I have such good results in .260 and .308.

Thanks but I've decided to wait for the TULA to re-appear. It's not broken so I won't try fixing it.

They are the same. I shoot both interchangeably with no detectable change in performance.
As a matter of curiosity when purchased in the 5K cartons, the cartons are identical, the part numbers(KVBx) on the carton are identical and without being able to decode the bar codes on the packaging you won't know until you get the outer wrap off whether you have the Red or Black box.

I get the lowest ES and SDs with Wolf/Tula/original Russian(all Murom Apparatus Manufactured). The results show up on Target also.
They are a very mild primer compared to a US made magnum. I would not use them with slow burning or hard to ignite powders. For what I shoot there's not a better primer out there.

Hum I've used them both in my 6 PPC the extreme spread was about 10 fps and I've shot two screamer groups with them a .048 and a .050.

I had 50,000 of both the large Rifle and SMR I have had two fail from not seating properly.
I get the lowest SDs and ES from the both also.
I use my Federals and CCI for fire forming. Larry

I think they are the same from the ones that I have shot in 30-06 at 600. Maybe like as stated difference is lot variance.

Ive used every shape and color of them for the last half dozen years. Ive used them interchangeably with no issues. The only problem Ive encountered was some hang/miss/nonfires in a very early batch of LRM's Most would fire under a Remi pin, Salvage and Browning with smaller lighter strikes sometimes didn't fire, but most would when activated by the Remi. No others however . Accuracy/precision has been excellent, only using target for comparison,not chrono. Most linguine shooting at 300M or more. No apparent difference with either box color. Oh may be a small range in diameter between lots, so make sure they're firmly seated. Id buy some today if anyone had some.

??? I've shot at aspirin and LifeSavers at 100 yards, had an occasional donut or two in fired, necked-up cases, lost more than one "beer round" at 1,000 yards.

What's "linguine" shooting, another discipline popular in Europe but not so common here?
