Are Magnum Primers Needed with Compressed Charges in Non-Magnum Cartridges?

Many factors could cause that, not necessarily purely a primer issue.
Some run regular primers in cartridges larger than your 300.

Could also be your primers are crutching a weak ignition or something your chosen powder requires.

Because Remington 6 1/6 and Cci #400’s are designed for 22 hornet and similar low pressure cartridges.
Not the 60-65k common in many newer cartridges.

I realized this about the 6 1/2’s but didn’t know the 400’s were for that low of a pressure cartridge.

As long as I have been reloading, somethings never cease to amaze me. Changing out primers on a load is one of those things you just have to try and see....you will be humbled by your own assumptions, time and time again.

It is worth all your effort to get set up to reload at the rifle range, as you get a "feel" as to how a combo is working and what it may need...different primer, more/less bullet jump, tighter/looser bushing, change of powder, more/less powder, etc.

Also, shoot three-5, step back and reload, fire again, leads to some very, very long barrel life as the barrel has time to cool a bit. 50/50 rubbing alcohol and water on a wash rag draped over the barrel aids in barrel cooling tremendously.
