Are EGW Scope Rails Worth It?

Tilted rail on a 10/22? Are you an optimist? :)

I’ve only bought two rails so far for bolt actions and they were not EGW because I didn’t have you guys to keep me straight yet - so what advantages do the EGW rails have?

Cheaper than a Nightforce. That's about it.

What does a tilted rail on a 10/22 have anything to do with being an optimist?

It was supposed to be a joke about the effective range of a 10/22 and shooting far enough that you need a tilted rail. If you shot as bad as I do and used crappy 22LR ammo like I do you would have known that. Sorry - guess it just wasn’t funny.

Or you could get the Burris rings with the inserts and use the rail you have now.
That isn't an option.. i thought about that.. but i am hot rifling the scope.. so the rail is a better option.. if it wasn't being moved.. then.. yes, i would go with this option..

For some rifles EGW bases are about all you can get if you need a one piece rail. They are also cost effective compared to others that are available. I have used them when I needed to and I have zero complaints. As far as "advantages", as in performs better in actual use for some reason than others....no.

"Hot rifling a scope".........I have done a lot of things, many of the most questionable happened while I was in Mexico. I must confess to never having {knowingly at least} "hot rifled" a scope....I think I might have hot rifled a big a$$ timber rattler once though.

I have them on REMINGTON 700, SAVAGE 110, AND Anschutz, both O and 20 MOA, both extended and not extended. I think EGW makes their parts on the exact machinery as Nightforce. I mean, this is the day of the CNC machine. I have heard tales of cork sniffers that say all kinds of things about how everything but Nightforce is junk, but let's be honest, making a straight picatinny rail is not rocket surgery in today's world.

Yeah, I have heard those same cork sniffers, and I am not so sure it's just corks either. Also, neither is making a scope exactly rocket science....which makes me wonder; why are so many NightFarce scopes always for sale??? I mean you know...seeing as how they ARE the greatest thing since sliced bread, and yet nobody seems to keep them around????

I just installed one on my old Mauser to fix a smith's screw up drilling the holes for regular mounts. Not only was it worth the cost but it was my best option to fix the gun...

I do enjoy my Nightforce Benchrest scopes. But i think the glass in my 400 year old Redfield made by Leupold has better glass.

Lol now that’s funny!

I have 4 EGW rails. Two Remington 700s, 1 Savage 110, and a ruger 10/22. Calibers range from .22LR to .338 LM. They all shoot great so I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.
