Ar15 NM free float tube modification?

I've been looking for a carbine length NM free float tube. Accuracy Speaks used to make them but no longer.

I'm thinking a regular 20 inch NM tube could be cut down from the front to carbine length and have the front cap rewelded.

Failing to find a carbine length NM tube, is this doable, has someone done this or who can?

I know there are carbine length free float tubes but I would like to have a carbine that's looks GI but free floats the barrel which will be 1-7 for heavy 75s or 77s.

No reason you cant cut and weld it

You should be able to cut the welds where the front handguard retaining ring attach to the tube. Cut it and re-weld but considering how many, good cheap options exist, it's more trouble than it's worth. For most things you need a carbine for, standard handguard works.

I've had an itch for a NM type carbine, good quality 1-7 barrel with M4 contour, free floating carbine lenght NM tube, good optics or open sights, and good trigger. I want it to look like a stock M4 (which i carried) but upgraded just like my NM service rifle.

I do have a line on one since my initial post so wouldn't be any trouble if it's what I'm looking for but like I said just an itch like the one for a 67 GTO but not as pricey.

Cmp rules now allow quad rail ff hand guards and such so that’s the easy button
That said white oak would probably make you one if you wanted the regular forend look
