AR Varminter: 223 vs. 223 Wylde

I hear the 223 Wylde is a great chamber for heavier bullets but theoretically the 223 chamber should yield better accuracy with reloaded varmint bullets. I am going to build a precision 223 AR upper to which will typically be used by others that accompany me on ground squirrel shoots. Those guests will usually be shooting factory stuff. While it would be an advantage to be able to shoot 556 if 223 can't be found in a pinch I don't want to give away appreciable accuracy for the times I shoot it with precision reloads. Is there any data or first hand experience citing the differences in accuracy between the two with the lighter bullets?

its just a chamber, and makes not a lot of difference.

The Wylde is just cut a little more generous to make gas guns run smoother. Don't buy into the whole 223 vs 556 hooie

Keeping to 2.260" loading I'd recommend a standard chamber. I have both and love both, but my wylde chamber mag length 77gr is nowhere near my SAAMI 70gr berger loading in performance. Of course that changes when single loading 80gr+, but...

Get a 1:9 or 1:8. (1:8 if you fancy 75gr+)

This rifle is for shooting ground squirrels, prairie dogs, etc so bullets will be varmint style 40 to 55 grainers. I was thinking 10 twist. Would 12 twist be better?

40-55 do fine from a 1:9 and keeps your options open. Original for 55gr and lighter was a 1:14, so either the 10 or 12 will do.

XTR: What do you mean 223 and 556 Hooie? I want to select the chamber that functions best and lends itself to be the most accurate for the application, ie. autoloader shooting light bullets. If we were shooting 12" metal gongs it wouldn't matter but when your'e trying to make humane kills on a 1.5" target at 300 or more yards you want the most precision possible and paying attention to detail is wise.
