AR brass catcher — Recommendations?

I just drape a hand towel over the top of the scope and ejection port. As long as you're shooting from a bench or the ground, all the empties just drop next to you.

I do about the same. I tie a red shop rag to the scope bases and the brass falls right down on the bench.

This much better than the Caldwell. The hot brass will put holes in the net and then brass flies out through those same holes.
The Tacstar really does work great for the cost. I really can’t find any flaws, never had a single jam. The only thing is one time I had to grind a little piece of the quick release because it was tight on my rail. I think they are a sub company of Lyman. I just wish you could buy the QR pieces separately.

I have the tacstar. I like it quite well, but it only fits on one of my ARs. My 20" with the cantilever scope mount it fits just fine in front of the scope mount, but on my 16" AR with flip up rear sights and an eotech theres not enough room on the rail to fit the quick detach piece. The catcher does adjust, sliding back and forth, but won't come back far enough to cover the ejection port.

I think you can order the quick detach pieces directly from Lyman, at least I think i read that somewhere. Maybe one of the reviews on Amazon mentions it. I cant remember.

LC

Those do look good and would be handy to use shooting pistols if the catcher was mounted on a tripod. Netting won’t melt in your experience will it?
It doesnt melt on 308 or 223. Im not saying it couldnt because its made from nylon type stuff. Maybe its melting point is higher than fired brass i dont know

I know this is an older thread, but maybe someone might benefit from something I just found. I am going to give it a whirl because I have had malfunctions with the cheaper cloth bag units.

Brass Goat

Not an answer to your question but I always advise weakening the ejector spring on military-style gas guns with plunger ejectors. Done on M1 Garand, M1A and ARs it will cause the brass to drop a couple feet to your right rather than flinging it clear across the range.

No. A friend here on the forum threw a powerful blessing my way gratis. I sent it to him and I'm ordering another one.

It is extremely well made - heavy duty. The thing I like is you can run it with the shoot and throws the brass under the gun at your feet. Or insert the brass catcher box like a magazine and catch 30 empties at a time.

Nothing else out there like it.
