AR Barrel Length For PD's?

I'm getting ready to start on my 6mm something, I haven't decided exactly, but it will be a 6mm), in an AR-15 and I'm curious as to what barrel lengths people like and why. It'll be used from a bench so the weight won't really be a factor. Any thoughts?

I have a Dtech 6BR AR and it has a 26in. Shilen barrel. It is very accurate at the 600 yd. F class targets. I think 26 inches is the shortest I would go with a 6MM. I recently bought a mag from BRAT rifles, so mags are now available for the 6BR type AR's.

Most of the 6mm AR's we have done for varmint hunters have been 24" barrels, and if you are using powders like RL15, H4895, N140, N540, Varget, we have not seen any big velocity difference between a 24" and 26" barrels as it seems like most of the velocity you are going to get is there by about 24",i.e. less than 24", the velocity definitely drops off).

I like 24's for varmint Ar's,223).

That said, I just acquired a 6mm AR upper with a 26" Krieger barrel.

I have to say, this thing shoots wonderfully. First time out with it and almost no load development yet, we were putting 5 into about an inch at 300. Load is H4895 and 87 V-max.

Trying some more powder weights today.

Robert, guessing from your post you are involved with making these uppers in this caliber?,Sorry, I got mine used and don't have too much info).

We are now talking my sport now. I normaly shoot a AR-15 for PD. Mine is a 20" 1:8 and shoots very well. I had a 6mmbr built last summer with a 26" tube on it and I am very happy happy with that. I also have been looking at building a 6mm something upper for my AR. I am leaning more on the end of 25 to 26 inches. I want to keep the speed up along with accuracy.

Well I just got back from the range with the 6MM AR.

With the 87 Vmax, 28.4 grains of H4895, Lapua brass and a Remington 7 1/2 BR primer, I was able to put 5 into .928 of an inch at 300 yards.

Think I found my load but I'm going to do another ladder, 28.6 looked pretty good also.

In any case, this is certainly minute of PD or groundhog anywhere on the planet.
