AR-15 grouping problems

It may have been addressed , are you using the bipod ? That can preload and change the poi . Move to a rest and place it as near receiver as possible . A bolt gun requires a complete dif hold than a Ar platform

I guess it's back to the drawing board. I'm going to order some 77 grn smk's. I mainly shoot from the bench off of bags which has been successful in the past. The scope is a Nikon 6-18x40 and I may try dialing it back, as far as I know my eyes are fine. I'll post an update when I have more data.
Thanks again

Loosen yours up and try it!!! You can believe this, they don't manufacture and sell ten billion Accu-Wedges a year and get $5.00 a piece for the little fifty cent thing because "it shouldn't matter".....by this reasoning, "it shouldn't matter" if your bolt gun is loose in the stock either, "since the sights and the barrel are attached to the receiver", but we all glass bed them. How many people can feel play in their bolt guns action to stock yet improve accuracy when they do bed them?????

If you think some stupid Accuwedge does the same thing as glass-bedding a target action – or that their popularity "proves" that they work – then you know far too much for me to bother debating you on anything.

Was there any mention of ammunition? For 300yd precision and beyond, 68/69gr bthp is a reliable starting point. Loading your own? Try the Sierra accuracy load and follow it to the letter.

What about your scope mount?... If using a Qdetachable 1pc extended base, are you SURE that it is aligned with your bore? You built your upper. Could your barrel extension be out of square? Using a boresighter-collimator tool like Bushnell 74-3333 will show you.

How many rounds on the barrel? Is it a precision quality piece? Might want to clean it down to bare bore and shoot a break-in regimen to be sure.
How's your headspacing? What powder are you using? RL15, Varget and other med powders only. Check the Sierra data... Is your bolt matched to your barrel? Got a free float tube?

So many factors. So many opportunities to learn!

An accu-wedge works better than leaving the upper and lower flopping in the breeze. What I said was that there needs to be no play between the two, no looseness or accuracy will suffer. You stated that it doesn't matter if they are loose, the sight is on the upper....which one "knows too much"????? You are right about one thing...there is NO debate.
