I am thinking about asking to carry the Wilson AR-15 stainless steel barrels. I'm thinking what I will do is use one single heavy contour underneath the hand guard with a standard gas length. Then I would order them at full length and then cut them to whatever length the customer wants and thread them.

Please do!!! I’ll be the 1st to order a 22” .936” Bull .223 Wylde in 1/7 or 1/8 twist with Target Crown.

If it were me...and it's not..I think I'd probably just order a few 1 inch od blanks about 22" long in a few different calibers and twists. I'd profile them and put the gas ports in myself. I may even have them install the bbl extension if they offer that service to you.
You could still do all the 223/5.56 ya want but quick turnaround on some less common AR15 chamberings and wildcats would probably be my target market, with a semi-premium bbl to boot. The market is very whored up with cheap 223/5.56 offerings. Wildcats and less common chamber offerings(limited to your reamers or customer supplied reamers) would put you into a niche market area with plenty of demand for a small shop. Just my two cents is all it is though.

I'm thinking the ARC's, 20 Practical, 223 AI, 6.8, the Grendel based stuff and PPC's, among several more. The 20 cal options alone could put you into a small market where you'd have very little competition in.

This is from the 2026 CMP rule book, rule 5.1.1.c which spells out the requirements for Service Rifle barrels:

c) Barrel.
Barrel length may not exceed the standard A2 barrel length of 20 inches, as measured from the bolt face to the end of the barrel. Flash suppressors are not required, but if the barrel has a flash suppressor the length of the barrel measured from the bolt face to the end of the flash suppressor shall not exceed 21 ¼ inches. No full-length heavy barrels are permitted. No portion of the barrel forward of the rearward location of the gas block or front sight tenon shall have a diameter exceeding .750”.Upper receivers and/or barrels may not be changed during the firing of any event. Standard rifle length gas systems must be used for 20-inch barrels; carbine length gas systems may be used for barrels less than 20 inches. Barrels may not have compensators, muzzle brakes or sound suppressors.

The market is very whored up with cheap 223/5.56 offerings.

This - but, from what I've seen, the focus is on 16" and less, maybe 18. But once you get to 20" and more, the number of offerings falls off fast.

Yes Service Rifle is limited to .750 after gas block and 20” Length.

AR-Tactical is limited to 22” Barrel Length and there is not restriction on OD (just overall weight).

I would prefer at least .875 gas block and if possible .936….with a step down for the rest of the barrel length (.925”ish or at least .875”) with a Target Crown.

Tell me more about this oversized bbl extension. I don't know how much bigger it can be. BAT(maybe) and someone else, made a fine thread ar15 bbl extension but they've been hard to find. The shallower thread depth gives more support over the chamber because the bbl threads are bigger at the minor diameter. I used them while they were readily available on all my AR builds but I can't find them anymore. They sure make a lot of sense though. Maybe you're referring to the od of the extension to fit better(press fit) into the upper. Just asking. I mean...why not do a 20 or 28ish tpi on ar15 bbl extensions?

I'm thinking something like that. I would just have them 26" and cut them shorter if needed.

Another smart AR barrel is a 20” 22ARC 090fb with 3” gas.
Anyone running a suppressor will find the longer gas system runs cleaner and quieter. Treat that suppressor like 4-6” more barrel in terms of port timing.

I like the oversized extensions….. I usually shim between the extension and the receiver with some aluminum shim stock….. probably not the right thing to do, but I think it works

I'm a retired old shit, I think as a smith serving tge AR15 platform is a positive business decision. The advantage of the platform for the middle class shooter is hard to beat (read total cost of ownership) and I expect that to be the way as long as the military uses 5.56 x 45.
I cannot think 9f any cartridge that I want in a rifle that would not fit in an AR15.
