ar 15 accuracy tips?

guys i own a armalite ar 15 target model. this gun is a very solid shooter with most of its handloaded ammo into 1/2"--3/4 at 100 yds. i mostly shoot short range at the bench100/200 but am looking to go to 300 and 600 as well. being handicapped by mag length ammo i have only been able to mess with powder charges and differant bullets so far. i have loaded sierra 53 hp mk and 69 mk with decent results using n133 and varget which i felt was a very dirty powder in this gun. i am looking to get best from my loads so any info that you might be willing to share would be very helpfull. some areas of question are brass make, neck tension, powder selection, and tuning of the loads other than powder charge? armalite m15 t 24" heavy barrel 1/8 twist..

Try Sierra 80's with no more than 25.0 grs of Varget,Max load),,that is if you can get it). No turn neck. The 80's are single fire, they are too long for the mag. Seat them about 10 thou off the lands. The other powder to use is VV N-540, but start at about 23.5 grs and work up. N-135 is too fast for the 80 gr. bullets.

RRA A-4 Varminter 18" Wilson air gauge barrel 1 - 8 twist Lapua brass, 69 gr. Sierra MK, 25.7 gr. Varget, CCI SRP,.004 neck tension @ .010 out of lands. Consistantly hits 20 oz. pop bottles filled with water at 500 and 600 yds. with 3 different shooters from a Harris bi-pod. Bill

shot last night again. had some nice prospects as far as loads but was running into alot of 2 in one hole and 1 out usually vertical. have to do some more testing i guess. scope problem? possible sling stud contact on frt rest / not sure. will there be any shots out of the group because they are being shot from the magazine? neck tension issue? HELP!!

The Sr Mk 77gr can shoot to 600 yards with no problem. I have shot 1,000 s of both the 77gr and the 80gr at those distances with good success. Shoot the 77gr mag length and the 80gr .015 off the lands with near max loads. The 77gr is impacted by wind more than the 80gr, but both are significantly impacted at 600 yards. Varget is a good powder to use for both of these bullets.

thanks for all you guys replies. i am gonna try those 77s and varget next. right now it seems as though the hornady 75 bthp is my best performer. 24.7 grs of rl 15 and win brss/ cci br4 will shoot bug holes with good regularity at 100. my next question is if the gun is tuned at 100yds does my 200 /300 /600 yd loads differ ? should i try to adjust powder either side of the said tune at 100 to remove any or all vertical? your thoughts?

I cant believe nobody has mentioned benchmark powder! Thats some good shooting stuff. It will shoot circles around varget, for me anyway, in my rifles! Lee
