AR 10 6.5 creedmoor shooters

I would recommend building your own. The ease of putting your own together is one of the things that make the AR platform great. I always use either a rubber city armory RCA or JP high pressure bolt as well as a SLR adjustable gas block. Use a Krieger or Bartlein barrel. Pick out the trigger of your choice put it together and go shoot.

Make sure you understand that there are different flavors of large frame gas guns and no single specification. Some are more proprietary than others.

If you are going to build one you need to either go with an AR10 configuration
or DPMS configuration. But whatever you choose to do, for a 6.5 creed or other
hi pressure round in a gas gun a +2 gas length is a must and you must get the correct
buffer tube, recoil spring and buffer.

Even with the +2 gas you will never be able to push your load up to bolt action speeds without blowing primers.

Just buy a good factory rifle like a Seekins and no worries.

I second building one. I'm pretty happy with my aero parts/RCA bcg. I also have a tool craft bcg, but that is in a 308

I would say stick with Dpms/Aero pattern and keep it simple. As far as +2 gas it’s definitely not mandatory. I have had/built literally at least a dozen 6.5 uppers. Only 2 of them being +2 gas. I have never had a single issue. As far as the buffet. I always run a standard rifle buffer setup with an adjustable gas block. They run like typewriters. Buying factory isn’t always the answer I’ve seen several factory 6.5 gas guns run like sh!t or not run at all. This is why I always stick to what I know works.

While not a 6.5CM my .260Rem AR10 is the equivalent. Ran it since 2008, originally it was my one rifle for LRP, MRP, and across the course, now its just my course rifle. First two barrels were done by Scott Medesha, last barrel I had Paul (Aka The god of AR barrel chamberings) do at Compass lake. Finally got a profile that I like as the first two (Kreiger's or Bartleins forget which) were truck axels profile wise, current barrel is a Obermeyer. Lower is an Eagle Arms lower, Upper is Armalite I guess, not sure what Scott used when he built it. Gas system is a +2 on it, with an adjustable block I can run 123gr SMKs at 38.5gr N150, and the 142gr SMK load is somewhere around 45gr H4831SC. My 200yd line load is just 38.5gr N150 and whatever little bullet I can find cheap. The issue with AR10s for any position other than prone is they are just long. So I took the White Oak buttstock milled off the metal before/after the cheek raise, then had a buffer tube made where I could adjust the lock ring forward. Now the length of pull is the same as an AR15 match rifle.

As far as the gas system lengthening it isn't necessary but it really helps. I know my .308 upper is +1.6" and it can shoot the same loads my palma gun shoots. The 260 with the +2 is pushing 142s at 2760fps in a 26" barrel, I have a 28" on it now and not sure what the velocity is. So yeah they can't push as hard as a bolt gun but they can push them.

When I'm shooting the 142gr load I run a Carrier weight system to help delay the bolt unlocking some.

I don't see any Seekins semiauto in 6.5 creed

I'm not sure if Seekins shows their SP10 on the website anymore but there are a few of them around. My gunsmith has a Seekins SP10 6.5CM that right out of the box was so impressive I went out and bought one myself. Mine came as a 308 because I couldn't find one in 6.5CM so I put CF wrapped Proof 6.5CM barrel on it. Seekins makes some fine shooting AR's.

Not cheap, nothing good ever is, but it appears Scheels has one if you're interested.

Another DIY. AMT upper and 80% lower (DPMS pattern). Geissele HSNM trigger, CTS buffer, flat wire spring, Magpul PRS stock, X-Caliber 24” +2 barrel, .920” muzzle, SA adjustable gas block, Midwest Ind. handguard. Topped off with a GG&G extended pic rail and a Sightron SIII 8-32 LRD scope.

I have four 6.5 Creedmoors in AR10 platforms. A heavy barreled DPMS that shoots sub 3/4 MOA most of the time and 5/8 MOA sometimes. I have a custom upper with a Shilen barrel that will shoot sub 3/4 MOA. I have a Christensen Arms that shoots sub 3/4 moa and is lighter than any of my other AR 10s. I have a complete custom with fluted Krieger barrel that shoot 1/2 MOA. All have aftermarket triggers. They all shoot 130 -143 grain bullets and they are for hunting. I have this many because I have three sons and a wife that all like my ARs. They work well for pigs and deer out to 450 yards so far.

What is the difference between a barrel for a DPMS patterned gun and a barrel for an Armalite? Picked up a new 6.5 Cr. barrel for an AR build, at our last show, but fellow was unsure which gun it was for.

if you were going to build a 6mm AR and make it a high end accurate rifle, what you build, generally? and cartridge? Seems like you have some good knowledge/experience!

The barrel extensions are slightly different between Armalite and DPMS, you need a
the correct bolt for the correct extension.

Buying a barrel from a fellow that is unsure what gun it is for is not a good idea.

So, I could take a DPMS pattern barreled upper, with bolt, and install the barrel on an Armalite upper as long as I used the DPMS bolt?

Used my Google Fu and found what I needed. Thanks

You guys are making this look simpler than it really is. If you pick the DPMS version there are at least two generations of them to keep track of. I bought a DPMS back when there was only the GEN 1, wish I had a GEM 2 as they are much smaller , lighter and easier to handle with no downside that I know of. Whatsupdoc is spot on these guns will never handle a bolt action load that is anywhere close to max. If you are serious about one, read the articles at JP rifles he is pretty sharp on them.

I would use the following:
6.5 Creedmoor, if AR10
Aero Precision enhanced upper
Aero handguard
A threaded Krieger or Proof barrel (carbon wrapped if you want less weight)
Eric Cortina tuner brake
Adjustable gas block if you are going to shoot suppressed
JP or Wilson high pressure bolt and carrier group

One (not mine) for sale in classifieds right now and you can save on sales tax as well.
