This looks great. I have a couple questions.

Does this still work without a connection to the internet or cell network?

If I buy this for an android for example and then get a different phone later (ie. apple) can I somehow transfer this on to new device or something like that? (due to work etc I tend to change phones every so often and sometimes the model of phone is out of my control. I would hate to buy something like this only to not be able to use it next year).

Yes, you can hand enter the atmospheric data. Lots of users with a Kestrel 4500 AB model do this, or you can use the bluetooth model and it will enter it for you. But yes atmospheric data can be hand entered.

It can be used on multiple android devices. But it cannot be shifted from Android to iOS their is another version for that. But if you buy a phone, and then have to upgrade your phone, you can save the data to the cloud, and then install it on the new device. In fact you can have it on multiple devices at once.

Sort of. We have AB Analytics which can not only create a firing solution for you, it can also do WEZ analysis. It has all the custom curves built in, and a profile loader that can talk with a Kestrel.

You can also run this app itself on a Windows PC if you install and run Andy Android. This is actually what I do. I have Andy running on my PC where I can create and edit profiles. Then I update the cloud, and when I need them on my tablet or phone I simply sync to the cloud.

Just for my clarification purpose...if you use the AB on Android you can Bluetooth link a non AB version Kestrel (but does have to have BT, obviously) to your phone and use them just like you would the Kestrel AB verison? Meaning rather than have the Kestrel w/ BT & AB you can buy the app for your phone and save a little $ by buying the Kestrel BT nonAB version?

I'm assuming if you do that then you need to view the readout via your phone versus having a self containted Kestrel unit tell you everything?

Am I understanding this stuff at all? ???

Any chance of doing a device to sdcard export/import instead of to web such that I can restore the db if I have to where internet is not readily available? I mean I can technically do it now by rooting the device and copying the db over... But it would be nice to have this option without doing so...

I am replying to 3 different people here so:

Yes you can connect a non Applied Ballistics Kestrel to the app, and it will read the data. Something to note here, I have on more than one occasion needed the integrated software in the kestrel, once my devices battery hit a certain level. As to not kill my phone, I reverted to the AB built in to the Kestrel as a backup. Just something to think about here.

You can have either or give you your firing solutions. The firing solution is only fed to the phone, if you use the program called Kestrel Companion. Otherwise the app is reading the atmospheric data.

I can pass the saving of profiles to the SD card on the development team.

Unfortunately their is no way to integrate the two together. As the military version was paid for by the government, as such a set of rules and laws must be followed regarding this version.

Doc, I've installed Andy, how do I go about downloading and installing AB on my Windows laptop? Do I have to purchase another copy?

simply log in with your google play account, and download it from the play store. You should not have to buy it again, just make sure you login with the same account you used to buy it. You can also download any games or other apps with it. Just a side note.

I didn't get andy android yet but did log into app store and it said that it was unavailable for my device(windows laptop). Is this just because I don't have andy?

Yes, you cannot install it on a windows platform. Andy Android works like any android device, only from your computer.

I have it on Android. I love it EXCEPT for one huge flaw. The graphs. You need to be able to rotate the screen flat or horizontal..... But it won't let you!

Doc, Kuddos on a great write up. I need to go ahead and get this app.

My only pet peeve is that I want to input my RIFLE information and not my Weapon information as I have no Weapons in my safe. They are paper punchers and tools. The left wing libtards do not need anymore ammo against us.. even in our writings...
