Anything equal to 300WSM?

If you wanna play in the 300 wsm realm with 230 hybrids... and want the best avcuracy you can have...target shooting... any other 30 cals to consider that toy around 300 wsm velocity, size, capacity, bullet weight... etc...?

The 300 winmag is of course in the neighborhood, but is decidedly antiquated and unsexy. The 300 Norma is a considerable step up along with it's ballistic twin, the 30 Nosler.

If you want to match the 300 WSM more closely, there is a truly beautiful and elegant if esoteric cartridge...the 30x68s RWS. It is simply the 8x68s necked down to 30 cal. The brass is incredibly strong and long lived. I had a custom rifle in this caliber once upon a time. I got 50 pcs of new brass and 50 pcs of fired brass with the gun. I lost count of reloads on the fired brass. The other 50 pcs were still virgin when I sold the gun a couple of years later.

I wish I still had it. It would stack 180 grain Accubonds into a hole at 2950 fps.

300 wsm
300 norma?

no

My 300 saum was very accuate. I didn't have a crony at the time but I regret letting that one go:(
I really like the saum not sure if it will do what you want.

How do the 300 RCM and 300 Dakota compare? Aren't they a little bigger than the 300 WSM, but not quite as big as the RUM and 300 Norma?

Just because I am a fan, ballistically the 300 H&H is almost identical to the 300 WSM. I don't think I can say the same for accuracy potential though. :)

30 Nosler or the 30-28 Nolser. Im in love with them. 215 berger at 3100 fps. Have not worked up a load with 230s. The bc gain is not worth it. Below is a ladder from 1k. 3 shots bracketing 3100 fps, 1.3/4" vertical. Ok for a hunting rifle.

Would be hard to beat this.

I think the hood name for that round is called the 30 BooBoo

.30-.338, use 7 Rem.Mag. or .338 Mag brass. Like the .308 Norma Mag., it has a longer neck than the .300 Win. Mag. and a little less capacity.

Nothing wrong with the good old 300WM. And it handles the heavies a bit better.

Of course, if you're into hype and the latest fads, the ONLY acceptable answers are 6.5 Creedmore or a Nosler round. ;)

Very interesting, I had never heard of the boo boo wildcats. I looked it up and found out they originated from Dave Tooley. Mine wasn't marked that way, so I wonder if Dave modified the shoulder and maybe mine was just necked down? I couldn't find a reamer print or shoulder specs.

I aquired my rifle in AZ, but when I lived in NC, I used to shoot down at Hawks Ridge occasionally where Dave was a regular. I met him a couple of times during the 1K benchrest matches down there but only know him by reputation. Nevertheless, an interesting connection that I was unaware of. Thanks!
