Anything BUT Acraglass

For over 15yrs. ive been bedding my rifle stocks with Brownell's acraglass...Im so sick and tired of having to heat up the resin to get it soft enough to mix...Is there any other good bedding compound that is easier to mix...perferably with less mess... ;D ;D

Ive heard the word Devcon alot but have absoluetly no expirence with it. Are the two parts that require mixing both fairly soft compounds?..I hate that the acraglass resin hardens up in colder weather...and for some reason it always seems to be below that temp. in my reloading room...and the temp fine for me...I always have to heat that resin up with a hair dryer

Google this and it will help

Yep. Way better than acraglass and no shrinkage at all. DO NOT get the Devcon Steel "Epoxy" from midwayusa.com
It's a solid bedding compound, but it's consistency is like "slimy soup" and is very hard to keep in place in a stock because it flows too easily.

Get the Devcon Steel "Puddy" with the number "10110". Consistency is about like warm creamy peanut butter. Which is just right ;) And you wont get the bubbles in the dried compound like you do with Acraglass

You can get it in a 1lb. container on ebay for around $50 shipped. Don't think you can get it in smaller quantities...But even if you don't bed a lot of rifles, it's still well worth it IMO.

AND only use "KIWI Neutral shoe polish" for a release agent. Works extremely well for releasing the gun and cleaning it off the metal is a breeze. The KIWI releases the rifle from the bedding 10 times better than that crap that comes in the Acraglass kits and is also way easier to apply on the metal surfaces.

Thanks for the great advice. I've been avoiding bedding like the plague by using Aluminum bedding blocks.....but think I probably should be doing a partial bedding/skim bedding/recoil lug bedding..will give this a try.

Accraglass is the worst stuff I have ever used! Devcon is the much much better. After you use it you will kick yourself for not trying it sooner.

I get mine from MSC

Definitely. Bedding blocks are no substitute because they can never fit the action perfectly.

Brad at custom reloading tools sells devcon in 2oz. packages

The Devcon "Epoxy" comes in 2oz. from midwayusa.com as well. So if Brad's Devcon bedding is the Epoxy as well, you don't want it. I bedded one rifle with it and it is a pain in the a** because it is too runny. And 2 oz. isn't quite enough to do a good quality FULL action bedding job. 3-4 oz. is about right.

Gotta have the "Puddy" with the number 10110

Not that Devcon isn't good ( it is!!) but don't for get Marine-Tex. Been awhile since I bought any so can't compare price but it is as easy to work a Devcon. Just something else.

Their are several Devcon epoxies. One is like peanutbutter, the other is a little thinner but never had a problem with the Midway variety at all. You just need a good game plan when you start, modeling clay for dams etc. Kiwi polish and Devcon Steel putty have worked extremely well. Done about 8 pillar bed/devcon rifles so far and never a problem. Prep and good inletting are the key.

I like Accuglas gel when I need to color it to match a stock...
Never did care for the original accuglas..
I do use Devcon if color is not a concern...........

I musta got a real deal on mine. [Devcon] Our warehouse at work was tossing 4 cans cause it was about to go out of date. They just gave it to me. I figure I'll use it till it goes bad. and then toss it..

If a stock is properly inletted and the bedding is applied correctly, color should never be an issue because you will never see it with the rifle in the stock.
