Anyone using Rl26 (or other new-ish powder)in the big 6's

I have always wanted a big ole 6mm something, you know 6-06AI 6-270,243 Catbird ect.
My problem currently is that with a longish tube and a reg ole 243 I am getting lives next door numbers to the big guys. Have any of these new powders made the big boys any badder?
If you have chronoed numbers please share what you got with what you shot. (dont need actual loads just powder and primer used)
Thanks

This is far into the hear-say realm, but I've heard of a catbird getting to 3600 with 105 Berger Hunters with RL-26. The guy's rifle had a 26" barrel and I believe he used it for turning various critters inside out.

I am waiting on parts for my 6SST build (SHERMAN SHORT TACTICAL). Over on LRH there are a few guys that have build them and they are having good success. Top loads with 110 Sierra's are topping out at 3500 fps with 26" barrels. I am wanting to run R26 in mine as I have a new 8 lb jug.

I have a friend that shoots a 6 x 284. That overbore barrel burner could easily swallow RL-26. The 6 x 284 is a super accurate cartridge that shoots as flat as a banjo string!

That was my original test with reloader 23 I’ve been using 4831 shortcut a very accurate powder but did not get the velocities I was looking for reloader 23 gave me the velocities I have another load running at 2980 that is just as accurate the steel was shot at 500 yards

Not a 6 but I have had very good luck with it in a 260ai with 140 hybrids and a 30" barrel. My initial tests had it shooting pretty well, I borrowed a friends chronograph since it was a new to me case, and it was right at 3,100 fps. I backed it off to the mid 2900s and have been shooting it at silhouette matches and done very well and consistent with it. I've got a little over 900 rounds on the barrel now and at least 600 of them have been fired in matches with rl26. It *looks* dirty but cleaned up very easy. Black stuff around the muzzle brake will wipe off with a wrag and no solvent.

In the barrel, I've found it cleans just as easy with a single relay worth of fowling, or a whole match worth (4 relays or ~64 rounds). Even now with over 900 rounds.

I've had very good luck with it. Even with small rifle primers.

My dad has a 6-06 AI built on a Springfield o3-a3 with a Kreiger 1-7 tube, with 115 gr Berger vld hunting and 56 gr re 26 fed benchrest primers, starting with rem 25-06 brass getting 3200 fps.

My personal experience with a .243 AI . . .

105 grain Berger Hybrid, RL-26, Lapua brass, CCI 250 primer = 3,307 fps (10 shot string), SD ~ 3.5 fps, and this out of a 26", 1:8 twist barrel. The load is well short of maximum in my rifle and it shoots where I hold. My brass has nine cycles on it and the primer pockets are as snug as new.

Had a 6AI running 105 Hybrid Target at 3350fps with RL26 in a 26" barrel...only lasted 750 rounds. It put a big hurt on whitetail and armadillos.

5CF1CB06-01F4-42CD-9C7F-FB8AF8859EFF.jpeg I have a custom 6.5 x 284 Norma like most people I started out with 4831 shortcut but could not achieve velocities high as I wanted I recently tried reloader 23 I am very happy the accuracy is still there plus higher velocity’s with no pressure signs I am running a 26 inch proof carbon fiber barrel and running 2980 at the moment This is a 10 shots string shot it 500 yards Sorry about the repeated posts I am old not phone savvy but will get the hang of it please bear with me

I have a buddy who is running R26 in a 243 with a 22” Barrel.

He’s at 3075 with 105s.

R26 seems to be a magic type powder in the medium and large over bore cases.

Six Ackley, 27" 1:8 Pac-Nor, 115 gr Berger VLD Hunting, Federal Primer, 7828 SSC 3200 fps. Overall length is the same or longer than 240 Weatherby. I had the bolt bushed at Gre-Tan so primers do not bother. At 3225-3250 it leaves an ejector mark on the case head. I am a hunter not a target shooter, it consistently groups an inch or under at 250 yards. Very happy with the Berger on game, great expansion and always exits on whitetail heart lung shots.

I would not trade this rifle or sell it, but I would not do it again. Either a 25-06 AI or a 6 XC if I stayed with a Six. This is on a short action, it should have been on a long action. No Data was available for RL-26 with the 115 Berger when I started so I did not try it. I had no interest in blowing up my first Ackley first time out. As long as 7828 SSC and 115 Bergers are available I would not risk barrel life on new load testing.

Good Luck and gather lots of data.

I often tell guys who can't get RL26 to try 7828.
I'll always have a good stash of it around.

I'm giving rl-25 a go when my 7mm gets back from Remington. I had started load development with it in my old 7mm but nothing too deep. I heard that the plant that makes rl-26 in Australia burnt flat. Not sure if that's true of not but if it is that must have been one heck of a show! Unfortunately I dont think we'll be seeing rl-26 anytime soon.

Don't believe everything you hear Stepsjframe. Reloder(R) 26 is produced for us in Switzerland, so any fire in Australia would not affect our supply. We expect our next shipment in about a month, so we should be shipping Reloder 26 mid/late September.
Hopefully the Reloder 25 works well for you in your application.
By the way, I have not heard of any fire at the Mulwala, so hopefully that is not true.
Shoot well,
Paul

We saw 5-6 8 pound jugs this week. The owner said they just came in. He said he could not find any 1 pounders. He said he was going to keep looking.
