Quick story ,was cleaning rifle after f-class match and use boretech and patches plus some nylon brush work till last pass patch was pure white. So i figured I'm done an just bought some breakthrough carbon pro and said what the heck and sent a patch down with it on and came out black ................hmmm Is this stuff really good or what......................barry

Boretech wont hardly touch hard carbon. Either Iosso / JB or something else will get it.
If it was black perhaps it is doing something. Not familiar, but nothing that Boretech makes will get hard carbon in my opinion.

To really understand what is going on, I think that it is a good idea to use a borescope as part of your process. The reason that I say this is that the only real problem in barrel cleaning, especially of top grade lapped barrels, is the removal of hard carbon. Speaking of ordinary powder fouling, leaving a tiny amount in the texture of the bore may actually be a good think in terms of the tendency to pick up copper.

thanks for response and i do have borescope ill check barrel out .I just was surprised after using bortech and dry patches the last three were pure white and tried a wet patch of this breakthrough carbon pro and patch came back really dirty....

That is really cool.
When you check the bore with the borescope, I bet you'll find it's still full of carbon.

In doing a lot of before and after checking with a borescope, I've found that after brushing with a solvent and patching out [as much or as little as you want], there's still a LOT of carbon left in the barrel - and, of course, mostly in the first few inches. Nothing I've tried makes a visible dent in that remaining carbon except an abrasive.

patch still white after rubbing on barrel ......ok checked with bore scope the barrel looks super clean except first 6 inches has some carbon....still did excellent job but that first 6 will need alittle jb and kroll....

just arrived today to try. cleaned the barrel this morning with bore tech, pretty clean, but some carbon left in the corners with the scope. couple wet patches to soak with the carbon cleaner, nothing more came out.

Thanks for reporting the results of the test.

Im coming to conclusion that most bore cleaners work fine but all leave hard carbon that needs to be scrubbed out with losso or jb...........I do feel that breakthrough does good job compared to others but its all opinion........

I had trouble getting Iosso down this way and ended up trying Boretech Chameleon Gel. It is not as aggressive as Iosso which I don't mind and it does a good job on the hard carbon with a little effort. I shoot mostly AR2208 (Varget) in .223 and 6.5 Creedmoor and hard carbon is certainly an issue. Anyone else tried Chameleon Gel? Thoughts?

Have used the Chameleon Gel for about six months now , and it works as advertised . It is not a aggressive abrasive , but a moderate polish , and it does improve things . Have since gotten some Thorro-Clean and it has done a great job of bringing the barrel back to life .
