Anyone Tried H4350 or N550 in a Straight 6BR Behind 105's?

I was thinking about trying it, but didn't know if I could get enough in the case to make it worthwhile? I've also heard N550 was a barrel eater, but I have a Kg I need to use for something. Thanks in advance and have a thankful Thanksgiving.

I couldn't get enough H4350 in a Dasher to get the vertical out, so I would bet it won't work in a straight BR. ....jim

I tried 550 and 150. 150 gave me a sub 1" three shot group, followed by a 1.2 and a 1.5 at 600. Took it to a match and shot much bigger. Very temp sensitive. Never got 550 to work well enough.

Best wishes!

Load 36.6 gr of H 4350 all the time
Just use a long drop tube and a slow pour. 3085fps with a 30” tube

I have a 14" 3/16 dia. drop tube and you can not get that much in a Dasher and it will not shoot in a .1 ..... It will not shoot as small as RL-15 , H4895 or Varget ... I ran them up to 3100 and they don't shoot good up there anyway.... jim

Hello Terry. I know that "in the past" the N 1 & 5 series powders were / are temp sensitive. However, I was on the Vhit web-site and they have an interesting page. The "new" page now states that ALL of their powders are "temp stable", Copper remover and lot-to-lot consistent. Evidently they recognized what they were up against with the Hodgdon "Extreme" line and the new Alliant powders. I have not tried the new 150, 550 or 160 / 165 so I can't say. However, it is on their web-site! Maybe something to look into>>> I am going to!

I did it with 95gr Berger VLDs using H4350 and in 6BRX. My conclusion was that it does work! But is expensive considering the amount of powder you must burn. A long drop tube is a must too. I think I was up to 37gr of H4350 and 3050fps with absolutely no pressure signs. I think later on I will try it again when I advance the freebore some and switch to the 105s.

B4E9D4C3-AD99-405D-BAD8-812F9D49505D.png I have been shooting 34.6 grains of H4350 in a standard 6BR for a year now. 2970 FPS velocity with a BR4 primer and a 108 Berger jammed. Absolutely no pressure signs. That’s the target velocity of the BRA. I have shot several 2” or smaller 5 shot groups at 600 yards from the bench with this combo. 28” Kreiger 4 groove .236. Here is a pic of my last f class target. I finished with a 598 35X. Conditions were great, very little wind.

With a 6BR I ruined plenty of brass (primer pockets) and pierced primers trying to make Varget work at the upper velocity edge where the gun wanted to shoot. With H4350 Use a longer drop tube and a slower pour. Powder goes to neck shoulder junction. Not a compressed load. No powder crunching.

Here are some targets. I do not have flags and I did not adjust hold for wind while shooting these groups.

This is what I was hoping to hear. How long is your freebore? Thanks much.
